Caldina GTT engine light code

Hi there, I recently started getting the engine check light on my gtt. I read through some threads here and found out how to read the codes by jumpering the TC and CG on the connector. I am getting 15 error code from the diagnostic connector.

Does anyone know what code 15 means?

You sure its 15 not 14?

If it is in fact 14 its the following

- igniter and ignition coil circuit
- igniter and ignition coil
- ECU

no igf signal to ecu

I just checked it again, and this is what I see. 1 flash followed by a 1 second break and then 5 flashes. Is it 15 or 51?

Code 15 means it's likely that one of you coils is failing (Cylinder #2 or #3), or at least failing to return a signal back to the ECU.

To determine which cylinder it is swap the coils on #1 & #2, clear the codes and wait for the Check Engine Light to come on again, then check the codes again.

If it's still code 15 then it #3 coil, if it changes to 14 then it's the coil that is now on #1 :wink:

Hi fivebob, I see you are the guru on the 3sgte's (according to the threads I have been reading hahah)

This may sound silly, if i replace the ignition coil will the problem go away if it is the coil and not on the ecu end? also where is the coil in the car and is it a easy job to do?

Can it also be related to spark plugs/leads failing? or is it just strictly the ignition coil?

EDIT: the swapping of the coils you talking about, do you mean swap the spark plug leads?

The problem will go away if it's the coil ;)

The coils are on the top of the sparkplugs.

It's possible for it to be a plug, though very unlikely as that should show up as a code 93. There are no leads as such it's a "coil on plug" system, but it might be the connector or wiring, though again that's very unlikely.

There are no leads, you have to swap the coils.

If you swap #1 & #2 coils, and you still have a #15 fault, then to be sure it's #3 coil then swap that with #4 and try again.

If it's still a code 15 then try swapping the sparkplugs on #2 & #3 with #1 & #4 to see if it changes to a code 14. If it is still a code 15 it's either your wiring or the ECU :cry:

Brilliant that clears everything up. Just before I start fiddling with this:

1) Attached is the image you are referreing to correct? Just unplug them at the sparkplug end and swap them around?
2) Reset the ecu and see if the engine light comes on and check the error codes etc?

Also the cylinder numbers are from left to right 1 to 4? or is it 1, 3, 2, 4?

Disconnect the connectors (one cylinder will be a brown connector the other will be grey), remove the bolt from the top of the coil that attaches it to the cam cover pull out the coil units and swap them over, bolt them up and reconnect them.

You may have to remove the intercooler to get at the coils.

Cylinders are numbered from the front of the engine to the back. i.e. cylinder #1 is nearest the crankshaft pulley #4 is nearest the gearbox.

Looks like my problem is solved. Took the intercooler off and was disconecting the connectors to the coils but they came off very easily as all of them werent properly plugged in all the way till they clicked. So when I booted the car, the engine movement might have pulled on to the connectors a little bit. Blame my mecahnic for that -_- Plugged all of them back in, resetted the efi and went for a drive, no engine light :).
