Well, i finally got the RC running again. Have had it idling up to normal temp on many occasions over the last 3 days. Went for my first drive up the driveway, and managed to hit boost. The ic pipes came off, which i was expecting and then the warning lights came on like the alt wasnt charging. Checked plugs and belt seemed fine.

Did up the ic clamps and tried again. Up the driveway was fine so thought id go up to the road. Went to take off, hit boost in first gear and felt like i hit boost cut or something. Look at tacho and car is stalled. Now when you turn the key absolutely nothing happens. No lights or anything. Wont jump start either.

So obviously ive $&#$% something up somewhere, and obviously is electrical. Main battery earth and chassis->motor earth seem fine. Have put the battery on charge.

Could the alternator/battery be at fault here? Or am i looking for something bigger than this?

Yeah engine will turn with a rachet on the crank. Cant push start as our driveway is up a hill, and cant pull start as im basically here by myself and the swift probably cant pull the fat arse up the driveway

Seriously, dumb question I imagine, but you've checked the fuses and connections, there are no melted wires/ smell of burning plastic anywhere? Any belts come off, or pulleys not fully attached?

Haha just taking the piss......and I can't beat $15 I've given Craig some suggestions on what to check.

There was a very faint of something burning, but not sure if it was just some of the large amounts of liquid i spilt everywhere.

Am currently tracing through starter and alternator live feeds for shorts.

Offer me alot more than $15 and ill consider selling its only gunna be for sale when its all sorted anyway.

Finally found my multimeter and did a bit of measuring. Found there was 12v at the battery, and like 0.6v at the starter. Think i may have found my problem...

Yeah sounds like it, gunna have to pull the loom apart and trace the wires. Least its not in a SW20!!

Problem is on supply side not earth side. The starter wire would have earthed out somewhere (probably ex manifold/block) and will be burnt out under the insulation. Quite a common thing.

Earths were all good. Shouldn't effect the operation of ALL the electrics tho, i mean even the stereo doesnt go! Couldn't even put the window up again

have you checked the condition of the fuse box? On st185s it's not uncommon to have issues with the plugs going in under the fuse box.

I'm very suprised that you don't have 12v at the starter, the wire that supplies the starter comes straight off the battery and down to the starter, it's only about 300mm long and I don't remember it going near anything that would cook it. Being reasonably thick, I'd think you'd get a decent bit of a fire from it if it did earth somewhere too. That is of course, assuming you're talking about the power wire to the starter, and not the solenoid switching wire.

I think as a general rule you should always look at connectors, switches, fuses, relays etc before you start suspecting damage to the actual wiring.

Sounds like the 30A, 40A fuses on the + terminal died
Do you have 12V at the ignition? Only other cause I can think of would be the master relay (next to the ECU) as it also switches power to the starter.
