tail lights and dash lights not working

Postby WAY TC » Fri Jan 15, 2010 10:50 am

are these two in series?

tail bulbs are fine (2 stage bulb - break lights work, but the parks do not )

fuses are all good.

just replaced factory headunit with aftermarket - maybe there is an ullumination wire i have missed?

im stumped.

It'll be a fuse. Does your clock work? (if you have one)

What car is it? Yeah there's normally a fuse box under the steering column in a lot of cars.

Have a look under the dash/steering column close to the drivers door.

had the same issue in the AE101 a while back

the dash lights & tail lights run off the same fuse, don't ask me why but they do, seemed a bit weird to me.

Check the in cabin fuse panel which could be down by the bottom of your drivers side A pillar, that's where the AE101one is located

What you did is grounded the head unit to the dimmer wire, it happened to my corolla as well, lost interior dash lights and rear brake lights (park). Remember to change the blown fuse after you've fixed the problem.

Yeah green wire does not equal earth, although it shows as one when the lights are off IIRC.

iirc they do that so you have more of an idea your tail lights arent working. 'oh my dash lights are out... that means my tails are too!'
