broken downpipe.

Postby MR2SIK » Sun Jan 17, 2010 5:48 pm

At the moment i have a 3" aussie exhaust downpipe, a while back it got wet while hot and cracked it, got it welded up and its been fine, but now it feels like the metal has gone brittle.
Took it off while removing turbo and noticed its cracked again ( not on original welds but near it.
Now another aussie exhaust one is way out of budget at the moment, so was looking for something cheaper.
http://www.drivenperformance.co.nz/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=478 like this one.

Now I keep hearing stories of cheap trademe ones fouling the actuator, has that been known to happen with these ones too? or will this do fine?

Or will patching up the current one do until funds permit buying another aussie one.

Hey, at least it sounds like a 3s.

Not sure if they are the same or not, but that picture looks the same as this one here:

And you can read what happened with that one.
If they are different brands please ignore this post

Looks like the issue was with the manifold rather than the downpipe, looks like the same pic, and there didnt seem to be the issue of the actuator sticking.

Aussie downpipes are supposedly the best, but I've heard of a few of them cracking.

had my el cheapo one on for about 5 months with no issues so far, Just welded up a support bracket for it too take some of the stress off it

Heylin used his for a year and half I believe before it cracked..

You can see where the gasket had been sitting, all that area had to be
ground off so after that you shouldn't have any problems with the wastegate sticking

why does no one seem to get a custom one made up in some good quality stainless? surely would be far cheaper then the aussie downpipes?

Just have to put a few gussets in the right place and it should be strong enough. Easier to mod than to replace.
