replacement brake booster thingy??

Postby stalker » Wed Jan 20, 2010 11:17 am

I swear I have the worlds largest brake booster thingy in my engine bay....and I hate it!!!!
Its the black vac assist unit

Now, am I able to swap it for a differnet one? and if so, what do I need to know/look out for? Ie. will different sizes bugger braking up etc??
I guess I want to keep it as I would like the vac assist braking, but surely there must be something out there either aftermarket, or factory that wont bugger things up, that I can get that is nice and small (and maybe even shiney...just as long as its SMALL!)

If ive described it wrong, I apologize now in advance....and can find a pic if need be

you can change sizes as long as the stud pattern is the same on both sides or at least same on firewall side and the rod is the same, you could swap out the master cyl if needed, but in theory the bigger the booster the easier it will be to break, and different sized master cylinders change how mutch the peddle has to move..

what car is it? there might be different sizes for the same model standard, i know my ke30 and ke35 are different.. but so is the master cyl (smaler booster bigger master cylinder)

hope that helps a little...

Ahh true....hmmm wonder what I can find that will fit.

Its in an AE85 levin. Dont know if its been swapped for something else, or if its the standard one.
Will try and get some pics of it tonight and load them up with measurements, cause yea, it looks awefully oversized lol.

I recall someone running into trouble when putting a 1UZ into an AE86 once, and I have a feeling they replaced it with a Hilux one? I can't be certain, but thats ringing bells in my head.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Looks possibly like an AE86/TE71 one, they're pretty huge. KE70 ones wont fit your master cylinder, but you might be able to use a KE70 master/booster combination. Pedal might feel a bit harder though.
