Not firing?? No Spark....Now I have spark!

Postby TRD_ZERO » Mon Jan 18, 2010 8:28 pm

OK so i tried firing my car up today. It just keeps turning over with nothing sounding like it wants to start. i had about 5l of old fuel in it but got told to add atleast 15 liters and it should be ok. I can hear the fuel pump on ignition.

What do i check next? Im kinda stumped.

Its a blacktop turbo running a g3.

Tried spinning the crank angle/dizzy to make sure the injectors are pulsing? Good tell tale that its wired up right.

Turn it by hand, sorry to be a pain but could you elaborate a little more. Its a dizzy by the way. I hooked the laptop to it and when i crank it over im getting 0 rpms and voltage drops down to 8v the back up to 12 when i stop cranking.

On cranking it should be reading rpm, sounds like you have your trigger wires messed up, also unplug the injectors you don't want to flood it with fuel before you manage to get it running

Engine / sensors etc earthed properly? Put a another earth from engine to chassis just to make sure.

You got the ecu power relays etc hooked up to a power supply which stays on while cranking? I'm guessing you do, otherwise pclink would disconnect when you crank it over.

Check the link manual, towards the end it says how to set up the triggers in pclink itself, after everything is wired in and before you try to start it.

Double check the wiring at the link plug. On my g1 V5, the ignition trigger wires were round the wrong way (one color was swapped with another). By wiring it up based on colors, I had wired the CAS wrong and ended up with the same issue you are having now (no rpm readout at cranking and thus no spark).

So might pay to double check that the right lines on the dizzy are connected to the right pins on the link

YEah not a bad idea but i dnt know what lines they are supposed to be connected to on the dizzy only what wires they were supposed to connect to on the ecu side.

Sounds like the triggers are wrong to me. Remove the dizzy and spin it by hand, should hear the injectors switch. Pull the fuse to the fuel pump as noted above.

yeah but if the link shuts down then wouldnt it dissconnect from the pc when im cranking? It stays connected when i crank it, hence me being able to read me not having any rpms.

Trig one is connected to "NE" ( labeled that in the blacktop pinout) its a black wire.
Trig two is wired up to "G1" ( labeled that in the blacktop pinout) which is redish.
Which im guessing are the top two wires on the dizzy plug.

And my link is grounded via e01 and e02 also e1 and e2

Use this link as a reference with the blacktop pinout if you like.

Both of those should be grounded? I never knew that? G2 and G- are still in the old ecu plug un used.

I asked in previous posts what needed to be earthed other than e01 and e02 but no one told me G- and G2.

That could be my issue Ill earth them tomorrow and post feedback.
