Hey guys, iv got a mate whos interested in putting a 1jz into his hilux, its currently a 93 petrol model.

Does anyone know how much work would be involved in doing this? would the gbox need changing at all etc? hes just wanting to basically put one in and get it running as standard as possible (cheapest way) and start doing modifications to it later.

also hes looking to spend 1800 at the most, would this get him a complete or near complete 1jz?

anyhelp would be great

cheers

Realistically you need (at a start)

Engine ~$1200-$1800
Clutch ~$600
Bellhousing and flywheel ~$1000

You are already out've money

The cheapest way would be buy a motor with the auto trans and everything, you should be able to get that well under $1500 complete, if you pay more than that you're getting ripped off.

and on top of that, it depends how much you can do yourself. the average rate for a mechanic/performance mechanic is between $79 and $120 an hour. you have to take into consideration things like what ecu you will run, who will wire it up, what fuel system you will run, intercooler and setup, what gearbox, how you are gunna set up your power steering system. a huge list of things that you will need to decide on and obtain before you begin, or you will end up with a half finished project, no money, and more than likely your parents on your arse to "MOVE THAT F*#@*#N PIECE OF SHIT OFF MY DRIVEWAY" etc etc.. (parents/landlords.. similar situation).

How original... yawn

Put a 1jz-gte in my Hiace van a year or two back (got the motor and trans from a group member) and never grow tired of blowing away 1uz powered utes and vans.... why piss around with a standard 1uz at 190kw odd when the equally standard 1jz-gte has 206 and more torque as well? Not to mention oodles more power a hell of a lot easier than a non turbo v8.
I love the sound of a v8 as much as the next rooster but a straight six twin turbo takes some beating. Just my humble opinion. Stick with the 6 mate, the 8 has been done to death.

My friend has a de-reg widebody GA70 supra ( ithink thats the chassis code) with a 7MGTE that he is selling, last I heard he wants about $1500 odd for the car with the engine etc.

Even though its not a TWO-JAY, YO - it would still be a good option as it comes complete with everything needed to run the engine, and you could make some money back by parting out the rest of the car.

give me a PM if you want me to put you in touch with the guy, its in Wellington.
