Whats is good suspension??

Postby stalker » Fri Jan 29, 2010 12:23 am

Just wanting some info and opinions on suspension please.

I have a AE101 FXSJ (poor mans GT  ) and I need some new suspension soon for the wof.
I want to get something desent, not coilovers, as I dont want to have to get a cert, and I have no need for them.
Its a daily driver, but I would like a bit of a sports set up as I dont really speed, but I do like to go around a corner at a 100 and know im going to come out the otherside. Plus its a nice little go-kart car,so I want it to handle like one too lol.

From my research on here, im guessing most ppl were saying bilstein(sp?) was the best option.
But any suggestions/recommendations very welcome.

Cheers in advance
:)

see if you can get KYB-AGX shocks for them, and some slightly lowered stiffer springs

In that case, remove the suspension altogether and weld the hubs to the chassis! :D
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Bilstein, Koni, KYB... and the list goes on. Ring Autolign/Stocks or similar and price some up. That'll help you decide what you want.
How much are you wanting to spend?

I had Jamex spings and KYB shocks in my SC AW11 MR2. Really good price (read: CHEAP), but it went really well with them.
A lot of people don't like Jamex, but I had no problems with them. I personally hate King springs, as I've have a few cars with them and hated them.

Tein springs 8)

Made my swift into even more of a go kart. Nice and stiff, nearly no bodyroll yet comfortable enough for a daily driver.

general comment ... bear in mind that the same brand of springs isn't going to be the same in different models of car.

For example the springs Revhead got me for my old Civic which were the same brand as he had in his Corolla wagon (I think tein?). In my Civic they were soft as hell, whilst the same brand / model was quite stiff in his car.

I've run into the same thing with Kings in various cars (AE92 great, Swift Gti stiff as hell, KP Starlet too soft, Civic too soft, Pulsar pretty good but not quite stiff enough). One advantage of changing cars way too often, and racing all of them is that I've bought the same brand name springs for a whole different collection of make and model cars. So I've discovered that there is a world of difference even with the "King low" range.
