ST185 Rear Movement

Postby eViLoNe » Thu Feb 04, 2010 9:12 pm

Hi guys,

Just a quick question, my ST185 has developed an issue when I take my foot off the throttle, the rear of the car moves towards the left, when I put my foot back on the throttle, it moves back towards the right. Also really noticeable in the wet.

Car will also do this movement randomly at approximately 105-110km/h.

I was suspecting things like rear diff mount, or some bushes worn in the rear, but would like to see if anyone else has any ideas.

Cheers.

Not sure if its the cause or not, but diff mounts all seem to be worn in these cars. The one in my RC had nearly completely seperated. Only about half hour to change one as well.

I used to have the same problem on my MR2, it's almost certainly caused by worn suspension bushings. It could be tie rods but the design of them is less prone to compliance when compared to a rubber bushing.

The diff mount failure manifests itself as a clunk from the rear whenever you lift off the throttle, it's pretty much unmistakable.

Ahh ok, sweet. Cheers for that.

I'm looking at getting the rear diff mount out in the next few weeks, so it'll give me a chance to investigate the bushings too.

Doesn't surprise me that it'd be them though, almost all of them besides the swaybar look like they've never been touched.
