What 4agte Link V5 cold start values should I have??

Postby AE86fan » Sun Feb 07, 2010 8:43 pm

When I had my Link tuned the cold start was never properly set up and it always takes heaps of cranking before it starts.

Can anybody tell me what cold start settings they have and if it works ok.

My engine is a 16V with CAS and mitsi coils but Im keen to try any settings, either turbo or NA, just to get me in the ball park.

Cheers

whats it set on now?

just try some different numbers in the cold crank setting, till it starts better, adjust it 5 or so at a time. the number in cold warm up will effect it a bit also. but if it drives alright once started, when cold. i wouldn't bother touching that

I dont have the current map saved on the computer and the car isnt here to plug in the lap top so Im not sure what its set at right now..........I guess I cant stuff it up too bad if I have a play with it, but a rough cold start value to start would help.

I read somewhere that 4age dont start very well unless they have synthetic oil, sounds like bollocks to me but I would be curious if anybody has had any experience of this.

it will depend on the injectors and numbers in the fuel map etc, as to what will work right,
just note down the number, that you started off with. cant really harm anything if your just changing the cold crank number. start off with 15 or somthing then add 5 every time you cold start it, if gets worse go the other way.

the oil thing sounds like bs to me, run my 4ages on mineral oil and they start sweet,

edit, does it start good when warm?

Ive driven my car for over a year with no cold start.
I generally just put up with a little bit of cranking.

Cold start is over rated :)

Dude you live in Aussie, I dont think it gets cold enough over there to need any sort of cold start

Once warm it starts fine. What usually happens is I crank it for a while and it fires a few times but doesnt start, I usually repeat this about 6 times and it eventually starts, as long as I dont flatten the battery in the mean time. I know Links hate low voltage so if it doesnt start the first few goes Im guessing the link resets during cranking then it has no show.

I will definently have a play with it and see if I can get it better as right now it is a pain in the butt!!

hmmm.. i have a v4 on my 1jzgte. had 2 tuners look at it and they both said its about is good as its gunna get. cold starting, it cranks and fires and either hunts for a bit or dies. you gotta do this a couple of times before it will fire up and run properly. then u have to keep the revs up, or it dies untill its at running temp. pain in the arse, but iv heard its common as for the older links to do it.

have you got anything to bypass more air into the inlet when cold? factory cold start on throttle body? if you have nothing and your not using the temp switch on the link. you can rig up a bypass pretty easy, with a solenoid, a/c ones work all good. should help the cause. they can be a pain if the idle is a bit low when cold,
