20v 4AGE oil pressure

Postby 1I1 » Wed Feb 10, 2010 8:56 am

Noticed yesterday on way home from work my oil pressure wasn't as high as it normally is. When rev'd it was getting to 500kPA (72psi) and at idle it was as low as 160kPA (23ish psi)

Should i just ignore the damn gauges or do these sound about right for 4AGE's?

These were both with oil temp sitting at 110degrees C.

Normally i would see 600kPa (87psi) and 180-190kPa (26-27psi) respectively. I let the car cool down and with the oil at 85 degrees it was a little higher at idle and when rev'd it was getting upto 550kPa..... Yes i understand hoter oil=thiner oil

EDIT: my bad, forgot to mention oil being used is 10w-40

Well, during the course of running between oil changes oil will deteriorate and reduce its viscosity, as well as being diluted by unburned petrol. Perhaps it is due to oil change? Although the it could be due to semi-stuck pcv valve supplying more vacuum in crank case (thus reducing relative oil pressure reading). Or the atmospheric end (second tube that normally goes to inlet pipe) of the PCV system is blocked...

Ah yes oil change, thats getting done this weekend.

It's got a pretty new PCV and its set up with catch can (pcv and breather at end of rocker cover breathe only into the catch can)

23PSI at idle is heaps

Well maybe not for a 4age - but I'm pretty sure I see about 14psi at idle...

What kind of driving was this? 110 while not nessicarily too high, is getting to the point where you don't really want it much higher.

More worried about the fact the oil pressure is sitting a little lower than normal. Will try new filter and oil to see if that is the cause (due anyway)
