Lateral thinking... large ali cylinder with cap at top...

Need something to contain 5-7 liters of water for water injection in my offroad race car. As the car is subject to random and excessive G forces I want to run a verticle cylinder with a cap at the top. Rather than fabricate something custom I wondered if anyone could think of something suitable that I could modify for my needs.

Something like a medical oxygen cylinder? I'm not too sure how heavy they are when empty tho.

on a serious note does it have to be ali? what about something like PVC pipe in a nice strong grade with the ends capped?

If it doesn't need to be ali - I've seen some rather tidy setups that used the plastic fuel tanks that are used for outboard boat motors. you can get them in a range of sizes from about 10l to 100l some even have simple level gauge, and cos they are made to hold fuel and not go all "x-splody" I would assume they are pretty tough.

or if you want ali, just find some ali pipe and cap the ends

tho if you read the first post properly, he states he needs 5-7L so even 700ml per unit would be about 5L, but @$80 each on TM getting something custom made would be cheaper ( and cleaner IMO )

PVC piping with glued end caps would probably be cheapest/easiest.
just choose diameter sized pipe to suit space limitations

I used a cereal box for my water tank Errrr, a plastic one that is.
PVC pipe sounds like a good idea though. How will you tell if it needs filling? Unless you have a float/reed-switch like mine.

Plastic serial box? Was hoping for a screw top lid (its right by my right elbow becide the sequential shifter). I'm not keen on getting wet!
PVC piping. Would get expensive by the time I add fittings, cap... and it would need to take rock impact without shattering. (hence why I have a thick coating of blubber!)
Pressure tanks will probably be too heavy. Certainly sturdy enough for the environment..
Plastic fuel can... was thinking that but given high lateral G's, well G's all over the place actually, I was hoping to keep it as verticle as possible. As in tube like. Makes it harder to get the pickup dry.

Maybe an old 4.5 kg fire extinguisher? Should be cheap enough and the one here in my office has a threaded fitting on the top of it.

have a squiz at you local Air con reconditioner workshop. I've seen some pretty thin walled disposable gas tanks of about 5-10 litres in bins outside which may be perfect? Guessing it's what they buy the aircon gas in for recharging. Not sure on what material it is though.. May end up rusting.
