20v silvertop running problems

Postby Evil_101 » Mon Feb 15, 2010 11:49 pm

Hi the other day i put in two new pipe leading to a custom air box one coming from under the bumper and the other going beside the batter to behind the headlight , on my 1991 toyota levin 4age silvertop
afterwards when i took it for a drive when it hit 3000 rpm the engine light came on and it lost power and seem to be very restrictive when trying to accelarate i managed to get it home and i took off the hose i put in to see it the fixed the problem
went for drive same occur as had before so ran dainostic with code 52 coming up which is knock sensor
so after reseting ecu it still came up when the revs went above 3000 also when starting the revs would rasie up to2500rpm and then drop and die so i took off plemum to cheak knock sensor was tight and plug was in properly
but still no luck put all back together and tryed to start it which it didnt want to do it just seemed to not fire but then it did engine light came on when it fired and reved up to 3000 for 4seconds the droped and died got car to run to runing temp and car would start but revs would sit at 500 at idel when normaly they sit round 1000 and still had no power
and smelled off petrol now after car has gone cold again dosnt want to start and if it dose it goes to 500 rpm then dies now car throws codes 22 24 34 32 41 52
also when car was warming up but still cold i tryed to drive it foward as normal but as soon as i let the clucht out it stalled but when it was warm it carwled foward
when reving car while not in gear if you push down on the accelerater full it bogs and while climbing revs it pops air back out of pod filter when car is cold/warming up

when warm it revs and dosnt bog but still being restried

tryed another afm, coilpack igniter, leads when car was warm but engine light still came on at start
and tryed my afm coilpack leads igniter in another silvertop and it ran fine and didnt show any engine codes
ecu donst apper to have lecky caps or shorted any where

could failed knock sensor cause all these problems , causing limp mode and it to be flooded while trying to start from cold ,also where could i purchase a new knock sensor from?

video of car being started and showing it reving , poping etc video showing problems (While still cold)

Any help i would be greatfull

check earth strap if bolted on properly.
There is one next to thermostat housing.
The ECUs on those have leaky capacitor problem and your pipe thing could be just coincidence.

Right around the 33 second mark there is an inconsistency in the AFM where it tries to shut.

Sounds like the cam timing is out. Maybe it jumped a tooth why you were 'testing' the new pipe you put in?

I don't believe if cam is a tooth out it would throw almost every possible code. I have seen cams on 20v out by 5 teeth, it would barely run but did not throw any error codes.
he has got knock, TPS, AFM, WTS etc. All these sensors share in common following things: earth strap and ECU.

checked timing it seemed to be fine , also pulled out ecu and cheaked it for leacky caps it dosnt apper to have any
ive heard from people on the internet that while car is in limp mode it adjusts the timing and overfuels so motor wont lean out
but i can pull out ecu again and have another look im on my 2nd ecu the first had leaky caps which i replaced then 6 months later it shorted on the "juices" from the cap leaking
