Speeding is one thing - but perhaps I'm un-sure of the area you talk about. Hopefully it's not that bit with the big blue machine? Because whenever I drive past - there's never anyone there to warrant there being a 70kmph limit.

It is the newmarket flyover, and obviously you haven't noticed how the road has changed through there. Lanes are at least half a meter narrower - that in itself is enough to lower the speed limit, let alone the presence of road workers.

I always slow down for road works.
It really $&#$% me off when some asshat does 80 in 100k and still continues through road works (30 limit) with same speed.
Or after harbour bridge where is 70 now and every muppet does 90. They need to put speed camera there...

just like it f**ks me off when we're stuck doing 30 because of road works - when they're hardly ever doing "road works"

No..... Go back and read my post.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

whoa 62kms over the limit? I thought anything 50km/h and over was off to court and lose your licence/get charged with dangerous driving etc. I know 40-49km/h over the limit is just instant loss on the spot for 28 days and a big ticket.. but 50km/h and over it's a different story.

Correct, but its 50kph over a permanent speed limit.

As it would normally be a 100kph zone, it will result in a big fine, but no loss of license.

Ok I believe you, but I dont understand why they would allow that, speeding is speeding, temp speed sign, should be fined the same.

ihavelift wrote:Fine will be $630, not sure if you get another $30 as court costs if you write in and plead guilty now.

When I got busted doing 153 in an 80 i went to court, plead guilty and got a $660 fine.

Learned my lesson, only 1 speeding ticket since - 61 in a 50 right after an 80 and i was slowing down. Was pretty bitter about that.

Will most likely still get court cost, cause it still goes throguh court. You just don't need to be there.

I plead guilty at station, and they just said I didn't have to go to my court hearing they do it without you.

Court costs are a Fu*king joke

like if you don't pay a ticket then It goes to the courts and gets $30 added on. For what? You don't physically go to court. And the whole process is entirely automated so $30 for an A4 sheet of paper, colour printing and an envelope. And don't try and say that the automated systems cost money to set up. They would have paid for themselves YEARS ago at $30 a pop!

Actually nz's whole legal system is a joke regardless of which side of the law you're on when trying to deal with it

maybe that was a little O/T hehe

I thought actual court costs were $130, ie to actually go to a court hearing. The $30 fee is usually when you don't pay your fine the first time round, then second time round it gets another $100 added on, then I suppose it goes to court unless you request a court hearing earlier on.

Speeding over roadworks are one thing, however why that particular stretch of road even has a temporary speed limit on it is anyone's guess. The actual roadworks are sealed off behind a concrete wall - the only difference is the safety shoulder is no longer there. Makes no difference at all to the right 2 lanes.

But at the end of the day - you break the law, you pay the "fun tax"... If you can afford to, do it. of you can't - don't...

The $30 is a penalty for late payment..used to cover the admin costs of that fine which has now entered the courts system..I thought that'd be pretty obvious??

^^ Also I hear if you avoid being naughty, you don't have to pay anything to the courts Cat007 If you're talking from experience maybe you should pay your fines when they are due *shock horror*

130+ is asking for trouble  guess you found it, but good to see you're not a typical pansy trying to get out of it because they spelt your dogs name wrong / some other lame excuse for breaking the law 8)

Through the 'NZ Police' you have to make a lump sum payment. Through the 'courts' you can pay it off weekly

yeah not so sure on that one....

Can vouch for lanes being narrower, not to mention change in route (with left lane having to merge sooner iirc)

FYI There are workers on the blue crane, and part of the reason for the viaduct upgrade was because the existing rails were not strong enough to hold a car in a crash or something. Imagine the catastrophe if a car went off into that crane its all about risk prevention.

I agree it is often frustrating slowing down when there appears to be no workers. But not much we can do about it, its the road rules at the end of the day.
