I usually find the gearbox starts spitting on itself if you've trained it right

Well I tried to be all smooth etc but I'm getting axle blocked by the gearbox.

Then out comes the hammer and "Get the f in you *****"

I'll be more gentle this time around, I promise.

Use a large 3/4 dr socket, that sits around the outer side of the seal to tap it in. Youll find itl keep twisting and popping out if you try and tap it in with an extention etc and more likely to damage the seal casing which will distort the seal lip.

Clean the seal hole with brackleen or turps and use loctite around the outer edge. grease or vaseline on the inner lip helps also.

well I got the goddamn seals out, mr2-tech.com was down and it didn't help since I've never done axle seals before and have no idea what I'm in for.

After a lot of swearing, I finally got the shaft out of the box.

As you can see, there are tell tale signs of me using the axle to have rough intercourse with the seals ...

I tried to pull it out (I have no idea that the seal is actually rubber on a very tight metal ring, I don't have a reference to this). So I gentlely pulled it, and it just crumble to a million pieces.

I also found this metal spring contraption hanging loosely a bit deeper inside the glory hole.

Anyways, I was confused why I can only pulled bits of rubber off (2 x half moon shaped on above pics) and I'm hitting a metal ring, which looked as if it's part of the gearbox housing, which I don't want to damage, but I do see a notch on the top, toyota wouldn't put it there for no reason. And the rubber goes deeper down the hole. After a lot of screwdriver work of various sizes, it did not move.

Finally, I used the handle of a long powerbar, lined it up with the notch, and made sweet love with it (giving it hell), and the metal ring popped right off.

Here's a shot with everything out

Now I'm waiting for the new seal.
