Spraying Wheels?

Sorry if i have posted this in the wrong section,

Due to paint flaking off my wheels, i want to give them a new coat of paint but at the same time respray them black.

The wheels in question are these



Can i just use ordinary spray paint or do i need to use special paint?

How many cans do you think i'll need?

Is there anything else i need? (clear coat, primer, etc)

Any ideas to get the original flaking paint off? (Some comes off easy, other parts no so easy )

I'm going to leave the outside of the wheel polished.

Read that earlier but not to keen on the finish of the wheels, i want mine to be more shiny.

Also, he used BBQ grill paint which i think is why they came out with a matte finish

Will try and pop round before they shut after work, try and get some advice

Also, anyone know what paint to use to get a glossy look? I want gloss dark black but i don't want it to be too shiny and look too shiny for the car

Just don't buy matt paint, buy gloss....

Matt black will be matt finish, gloss black will be gloss....

Problem is by the time i finished work, most car/paint specialists have shut, thats why i asked on here first.

To be honest though the picture does make it look worse than it is, might price up a set of springs, they go cheap enough pn Trade Me .

Just done a quick photoshop job, obviously the wheels will be darker and shiny.

May not be what you are looking for but possibly worthwhile pricing up the cost of getting them sandblasted/acid dipped and powder coated a solid colour?

Then make that colour selection fluro yellow. Do it. You know you want too.....

But in all seriousness, I would look at it as an option. No doubt as they stand they will have paint/clearcoat flaking and tar etc on them. Sandblasting/acid dipping will remove this and powder coating is good as it 'fills in' minor gutter rash if there is any.

Thanks for the reply, yea sold the Celica last month, the 4WS kept going wrong all the time leading me to sell it, made a $1000 profit

Had not even thought about that, IIRC, all 4 wheels are around the $150-$200 mark and thats blasted and powdercoated.

Would prefer them to be powdercoated because of the quality and finish but depends on how much $$$$ i have at the end of the week/

Would prefer the cheapest option as 9/10 i'm broke

Oh and did go through a phase where i wanted fluro wheels, was thinking orange or green

Go get them powder coated.
Its not really that $, maybe $60 a wheel... that too $ for you?. They can just powder coat over the top of your current ones without needing to take off the original paint to save $.

$25!!! wtf where did you get that done?

I use Pro Coat. The guy can go over the top, not ideal but cheaper. He cant guarantee how long it would last.

place in Hamilton, had them stripped and ready to go, they had them done in a week... they waited till they had other things of the same colour to do, coating is still mint, did goto another place and they said around 80 per wheel I think

This is the main point I think, It's a hell of a lot cheaper if they're just putting your parts in with someone else's order.

Pretty sure Richie/Snoozin got his coated for $80 for the set in Palmy

the place i got my stuff powder coated would do a wheel for about $25each.
They blast them, galv them and then coat them.
