Car seems to drain all water randomly

Postby dnalunchie » Fri Feb 26, 2010 8:09 pm

Ok so here is the deal I own a 1.3 carbed 87 suzuki swift and its doing sumthing random.

Ill be driving along and it will suddenly get SUPER hot and I pull over and check the radiator , empty, check the overflow tank, full, also the hose that comes off the overflow tank looks to be the place where the water is all emptying, or atleast some of it.
So I fill it up again, and BANG 30 mins later, hot again, radiator empty, overflow tank full.

What is going on? Someone has mentioned a head gasket>?
I know the fan is working.
The tank is VERY dirty but seems to flow fine.
Getting sumwhat concerned here.

Where is MAGN1T where you need him??
Sound like it gasses from BHG are pushing all the water out.
Let it cool fill it up and start it up without cap, add water as normal bubbles come out, wait for thermostat to open, add more water as necessary, if at this stage it is bubling, then it has BHG.

if it's losing water as fast as you say, i would imagine it would be easy to notice whether it's a blown hg or not. heaps of smoke or milky as oil. firstly, i would check to make sure the radiator cap isnt screwed and just letting the coolant out of the radiator as soon as any pressure builds up inside it.

Probably doesn't want to ruin his perfect record of BHG (mis)diagnosis and actually get it right for a change ;)

go to an automotive store and grab a teekay head check kit

basically you put some special fluid in its vacuum pump. jam it in the top of radiator and pump it to create a vacuum to draw any combustion gas thru,

if head gasket is blown and pushing gas into water system the fluid changes colour.

well had a look at the beast 2day and it seems like it is a BHG, bubbles coming out radiator when warm, still blows out about 2L of coolant even with a new Rad cap.

Also starts like a sack now, probly due to drawing water into the cyl when its off.

Would like to thank Laas here (Burning angel)

I went to work, he texts me at like 12, tells me he thinks a BHG and so I ask him if he feels like replacing it, he picks me up from dinner at like 8 tonight, all done.
