hey man, paypal is a middle man for money transfers. Ive used it multiple times before and haven't had a problem yet so i think its a pretty good service. You can put money into your paypal account or just use it as a portal/link for use with your credit card. They charge fee's but theyre quite small.

Be very careful, why would you want to use paypal for a transaction within NZ. :?

It's quite a common scam on paypal to get the goods and then file for a refund from paypal claiming non delivery. Also it possible for them to use a stolen credit card, or even file a chargeback through their credit card, and you end up with nothing.

Send me your account details and passwords Lunchie and i'll let you know if its legit or not. Sounds about as legit as this idea

Just think, why would they need Paypal if they are in NZ?

Heres the deal guys, got a txt from a VERY random number, like began with a 1 or sumthing anyway chick asking about the bike. Here is the messages

Hello,
Thanks for the swift reply, I am pleased with your price but I want you to get back to me with more pictures of it because i am presently in China on business trip and could not come over to check it out,but no worries as i am willing to handle the pick
up of this vehicle through a legitimate shipping agent based in china, it will be picked up after payment, so i really need to know the mode of payment because i need this vehicle urgently. Hope to read from you asap.

.....Sarah

(I sent more pics)

I can only conclude this transaction only via paypal,i have been burnt via cheque and bank transfer before, that is why i selected paypal(www.paypal.com) as a mode of payment because paypal is the best online payment,so both of us could be on the safer
side,i am a woman of integrity.i am honest and don`t cheat people out of their money,i own my company that have a 25 number of people working for me,awaiting your decision because i really need to pursue this buy sincerely.
Thanks

.....Sarah

(I asked her why I have to use paypal)

Paypal is the best online way to transfer or receive money into your account or make payment for any business transaction,it is link with your personal account, it is free, safe and reliable.if i make payment for you through paypal now,it goes to your personal account used in open your own paypal account.
For more information, visit www.paypal.com ,get back to me asap for more detail you need on it

.....Sarah

I told her I was not comfortable with this payment method and that once she deposited the money into my account (Bank not paypal) She could pick up the bike at her leisure. I also reminded her that I have 100% positive trademe feedback with many trades over this $ amount.

I have to say I felt a little suspicious of this whole thing from the first email.... I mean china? Wtf surely its cheaper to buy a bike over there. Very suspect to me.

Probably a variation on the old Nigerian "Oops I've sent you too much money, can you please refund me via Western Union" scam like this one
A Palmerston North mother is angry and embarrassed after she lost $750 to an internet scammer who duped her by using fake emails from money-trading website PayPal.

Tracy Tiffen's 19-year-old son put his Toyota Soarer up for sale on the Trade and Exchange website last week, using her email address as a point of contact.

Mrs Tiffen received an email of interest from a man, claiming to be a petroleum engineer on an offshore rig, who said he wanted the car for his Auckland-based father.

The man claimed to have transferred money for the car into his PayPal account an online money transferral site but said it could not be released until his shipper had been paid. He then asked Mrs Tiffen to pay the shipper as he had not been able to contact him.

"That's the part that brings up the question of `how come you paid him money'?", she said.

"But I thought `what a nice guy' he's buying the car for his dad."

Mrs Tiffen transferred $750 for the shipper to a London-based Western Union branch. Unfortunately, by the time she discovered the deal was bogus the money was gone.

"I'm devastated, I feel stupid and I feel unsafe on the computer," she said.

But the brazen scammer did not stop at $750. He also tried to swindle $950 out of Mrs Tiffen for "insurance" purposes.

"I sent him an abusive email and told him his mother would be so disappointed in what she had created."

When Mrs Tiffen contacted the actual PayPal site she was told payment confirmation emails supposedly sent by the site were fake.

Money has been tight since Mrs Tiffen lost her job in March, but she has found work as a meter reader in Feilding.

Her two younger children, aged 12 and 3, could go without this Christmas because of the scam, she said.

"I've just had a bummer of a year. I didn't need this.

"I haven't got the money to do stupid things."

Despite her humiliation, Mrs Tiffen wants to get the word out about the scam.

"I would feel crappy if I say nothing and it happens to someone else."

Detective Sergeant Tim Moffatt said money transactions done over the internet should be treated with caution and only credible agencies should be dealt with.

I'd go for it,

Just dont let go of the bike or pay any money yourself until you have got the cash out of the paypal system.

I have sold thru paypal to Aust. before and found it was no problem.

These are the two things that say scam to me, and one of them has been said in this thread before. There is no reason for her to try and convince you that she's legit, unless she isn't.

I completely agree with your last point... Surely she can find something over there that's VERY similar to what you're selling.
Cheers,
Brandon

Funnily enough a girl I know just got caught by something very similar, this was a couple of weeks ago. The person was in China, said something about her needing to pay the shipping costs and they'd reimburse her and she did. No idea why. Anyway, no surprises but the next thing she heard was a request for more money for some storage charge or something. Only then did she realise it was a scam. An expensive lesson.

She also used paypal but no way to get the money back, not sure if theres a fake paypal?
