Rear Caliper with Hand Brake

Postby nz_climber » Tue Mar 02, 2010 7:44 pm

Hi everyone, just looking for a rear brake caliper ideas for my Lotus 7:

What I need is
Caliper with intergrated handbrake on the caliper
Fit about a 250mm disc (about 10mm thick) size can vary but don't want to go to big.
Small, Compact and light.

And fingers crossed they don't cost the earth, looking for something that is fairly common so I can get pads etc.

So what production vehicles should I be looking at? Anyone got something laying around that they don't need?

Any help would be great

Cheers
Aaron

Primera, 323 Astina, are what i have been using.

the pad isn't overly large, so may affect outright braking even with a decent compound?

Don't need a big pad area, will probably be over braking the rear anyway. Cheers for the options, do you have any pictures etc of the calipers?

Edit: Anyone have any pictures of SW20, AW11 and MR-S calipers? would they work?

Yeah SW20 rears can accomodate a fairly decent sized disc.

SW20 Later model calipers are decent.
I am using them on my aw11, which are mated up to the factory front rotors.

What does the altezza use? Is it the same as caldina with the drum brake/disc brake combo? or purely disc brake.

Cheap and cheerful setup for me: hilux diff + rps13 nissan discs and callipers with ae86 cables. Works a treat. Diff weighs a ton though so if you're making a lotus which relies on light gear, and presuming your power wont be through the roof, you could buy a nice ae86 set up all ready to go ex japan with trd lsd already in there for about 1.5k

Cheers, but already have a diff etc, running a IRS set up with sierra diff (alot lighter than other options) and currently have sierra drums, but want to switch.

those ae82/92 calipers seem to be the best option at the moment, just waiting for some more info etc on them.

As for power, its got a Beams 3sge, so more than enough in a 600kg car!
