3sgte Oil pumps

Postby CelicaGT8 » Sun Feb 28, 2010 9:14 pm

Just went for a blat in my corona, ran the bearings,
Highly pissed off
Crank all measured etc, and acl race bearings, but i think it may have been the oil pump that created the problem as they do have a ton of problems.

Gen2 3sgte with gen 1 block (gen 2 oil pump)

Question:
Is there a better oil pump i can run? is there a trd option, what is recomended for race?

You can always shim the factory pump.....
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Interesting, A friend of mine had the same problem last year with his WRX, 800km into run in and it ran a bearing. Running ACL bearings too. Maybe a potential problem with ACL?

wouldn't it be the builder instead of blaming innocent parts?

builder's fault for not checking clearances etc
builder's fault for assembly of dirty components etc etc etc?

this is a question.

Yep would certainly look toward engine assembly rather than bearings!

Add not checking the parts properly
NEVER assume the part is correct and perfect. Check it.

Fresh rebuilt engines that have bearing failure how unusual

All joking aside I wouldn't be blaming the oil pump for such a failure until you eliminate everything else.

Remember, check twice fit once and clean, clean, clean is the proper way to build engines.

The engine recos polished and measured the crank, acl race bearings, correct torques, good oil

Did not use new pump. did use remote oil filter ..... to much pipe? 1.5ish meters.... long way for oil to travel...

Will pm frost about other pump

Why do you think there is inherit problem with oil pump on 3SGTE?
Perhaps your old pump is just out of spec?
Why not just get new oil pump for the engine in question?

Most failures I have seen were not because oil pump not supplying enough oil as the cause of the fault, but oil pump not supplying enough oil either due to blocked strainer or low oil level and cornering.

How much oil do you put into your engine? Have you accounted for extra oil in the lines (that drains into sump fairly quick)?

On cold, with remote oil filter and cooler, it should read above F line.

Just get a new TGP oil pump. I'd place good money on the failure being due to the fact that your oil pump was old/shagged and not replaced (when it should have been) as opposed to an inherent problem with the 3SGTE oil pump.

So there isnt a higher flowing pump avalible?

Have had tons of problems with 3s engines running bearings.

I used a new pump in the old housing, probably should have got a new housing too...

plenty of oil in sump, about 5mm overfull on the dip stick.

can conferm today after removing oil pump that the pressure relief piston in the pump housing was jamed sideways,

Iv hurd that this is due the different expantion rates between the materials...

Have seen it a few times before
