I know there are threads on this but buggered if i could find them...

anyway, wanting opinions/advice. Just put the silvertop back in my starlet after getting some work done on the car. driven it a few times and its been running a bit flat. anyway today tried giving it a decent thrash, and it hesitates at about 3 grand then again at 6. makes $&#$% all power. checked codes, and 21 is up. That is normal for this car, its running no oxy sensor or speed sensor. and before you tell me off for no oxy sensor its been running fine without it for 3 years, its a rally car.

anyway couldnt find any dodgy sensors so checked my ecu for the leaky cap issue. found a tiny amount of residue under one so replaced he ecu with a spare i have here. took it for a squirt and all seems well. nice power and no hesitation.

my question being thus, do the capacitor issue cause the above symptoms or have i inadvertantly temporarily fixed the issue whilst poking around in engine bay?

Its an issue cos a big hesitation in a rally car mid corner on gravel = stink au.

Nah sounds like the ECU is the problem.
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

could be some kind of limp mode. In my GTZ what happened was the supercharger turned off and it was hard to get anything out of it.

The cause was leaky caps. Engine check light would come on and it would do it intermittantly. No codes come up either. Replaced ECU and all was sweet again.

mmm, drove it again to work this morning and all still seems fine. I'll be giving it a good run before the week is out so I'll report back but fingers crossed...

When my ECU leaked its caps it would run rough, occasionally run ok, but get some bad flatspots, and occasionally would not even idle, and leak some other signal to VVT circuit causing VVT to semi-engage permanently.

which is why I am pretty sure it would be leaky caps in the ecu. It happened to me twice before I got it fixed, and both of these times were completely at random.
