AE92 Corolla - headlight problem

Postby lazy_kiwi » Tue Mar 16, 2010 11:21 pm

Have recently swapped 4af to a 4age and now having trouble with the headlights

The wiring and switches seem okay.

Dash loom is from a AE92 sprinter GT and front loom (which runs headlights/front indicators/park lights etc) is from AE92 FXGT.

The issue is the headlights dont light up when set to ON.

Dash lights up okay, park okay, even high beams okay! Just no low beams... I can even hear the relay switch when the headlight switch is on, just no lights come on.

I've checked the bulbs and replaced the 2 10amp fuses in the engine fuse box.

Any help appreciated. Have tried looking for a wiring diagram for the front loom but cant find one anywhere

I would go with relay, you are probably hearing the relay click for the dash lights or the park lights. Pretty sure the headlight relay is in the relay box under the bonnet instead of the one in the drivers kick.

its definitely the relay under bonnet clicking, have removed it and no click. even replaced it (have a couple of looms now) and still no lights.
I think earths are good too as the hi-beams work, its just the farken lo-beams!

are you sure the bulbs are good?, its very common for low beam to blow and high beam to be fine with H4 bulbs(due to low beam being used considerably more
put a multimeter on them to test for continuity, you can also use the multimeter to check if theres 12v getting to the bulb.

okay, did what you said and got continuity thru the bulb, put multimeter on socket to bulb and showing power when on lo-beam! found the bulb works when i hold the connector in place firmly so issue was loose connector lol...
was only on one side, I'll check the bulb and connector on other side tomorrow, but I'm sure this will be similar problem there too.
Maybe could be combo of jappa loom and NZ bulbs? not quite same size fittings?

Next problem to solve it the reverse lights not working.. dont enough know where to start on those!
