another throttle body related question

Postby deaf_rattle » Wed Mar 17, 2010 6:12 pm

My throttle body has 2 spring set ups on it.
The set up on the shaft itself and this extra spring coming from the front.

Because i have rotated the linkage/cam by 180 the pivot point for the front spring no longer works.

The throttle body still works properly without it, but there is slightly more tension on it with the second spring in place.

Do i need to run this?

If i do, what have people done in a similar situation, as the spring pivot point has to be exact, otherwise it holds the throttle open!

my set up at present

No, as long as it works well.
Many racing organizations require 2 springs no matter what.

looks like you could potentially tig a bracket onto the mount you've made for the accel cable. then you could run a spring parrallel with the cable but to the top of the cam, so it opposes the pull of your right foot. 8)
if you wanna get really fancy I've even seen a setup that had the accel cable going down the middle of the return spring. looked super slick, but would require a bit more thought to make it work properly.

if you need it or not is up to you i guess, springs can break tho

thanks guys. on closer inspection there are actually 2 springs on the shaft, so that might be sufficent?

well you could always just get some fishing line and some sinkers and hang some counter-weights off the bugger :P

meh the 2 springs there will probably be fine, i'm just overly cautious with things like this so I kept mine as the factory made it. The worst that could happen is you get stuck at WOT and have to pop in the clutch and shut her down.
