4age turbo fuel question

Postby ATAl » Thu Mar 18, 2010 9:48 am

Hi all

I'm sure some of these questions have been asked before but I can't find a proper answer.

Basically I've got a turbo 4age in my ae92 levin. Injectors are 540cc ones and have a walbro 550hp fuel pump so I'm not to worried about these, more worried about the fuel line size.

I'm trying to figure out how much hp the fuel system can support, how much hp have people got out of one of these with stock fuel lines. Who's got what out of the stock fuel system?

Second, on the likely chance I need to upgrade the fuel lines I'd like to keep it as simple as possible - replace the steel lines running under the car, this is fairly straight forward, just new lines and bend them up, new fuel filter and flexi hose to the rail and a larger return line and fpr.

But the bit I think will be tricky is the line straight after the fuel pump in the 'top plate bit' of the fuel tank (the bit with the pipes and which the fuel pump bolts to). What I was thinking is that I could replace this with a supra turbo or something like that's 'top plate bit', is this possible and what size pipes are in this bit in a supra?

What would be really useful is if someone with a supra turbo could take pics and measurements of this top plate bit - bolt spacing and pipe diameters, any takers? :D

hey mate,

what power are you seeking out of the car?

what turbo etc? ecu and supporting mods do you have?

im making 200kw wheels on factory fuel lines, is it street or you doing motorsport?

most cars have 5/16" lines, which are plenty of fuel for up to say 500hp it seems. I wouldn't worry about it unless you are going for some serious power.

Power should end up somewhere between 300-350hp at the engine, ecu will probably be a link g4, turbo garrett GT2860R-5, mods are basically strengthened and balanced bottom end with 8.9:1 compression, 20 valve head with higher lift cams, custom made intake and exhaust manifolds.

Will mostly be a street car, might enter some hill climbs or whatnot.

What do you have done to your fuel system?

If you are not planning to run 1000+ Hp stock fuel line is sufficient.
Remember with 540cc/min injectors maximum you will be pumping about 2L per minute.

No problems here with stock lines, using 550cc injectors and walbro fuel pump too. 222kw

Cool looks like that's one headache I can avoid :D

One question left: Have any of you guys running 200kw+ on stock fuel lines checked the a/f ratio and fuel pressure?

Generally anyone with 200kw+ 4age would have used a tuner who checked this at the time of tuning. otherwise it would become a 0kw 4age fairly quickly.
I'm using a Sard FPR, had used a factory reg for a while but not while running 200+
