boost question

Postby -Justin- » Thu Mar 18, 2010 3:18 pm

it's a nissan question sort of but their are a lot of pros here and the concept of the turbo is universal :D

Have found a chip that only runs 5psi of boost on a rb20de block. Have a factory RB20DET turbo, I know these don't run 5psi factory so my question is how do i get the boost down and to run safely at 5psi. By adding a 3 inch exhuast i will be increasing my boost as well?
cheers

you would need a softer wastegate spring to drop boost.

External wastegate with 5psi (or thereabouts) spring or change length of internal wastegate actuator arm (trial and error - easiest to just weld in a threaded section so you can wind it in/out)

Not sure about Dunedin. Anyone with basic fab skills can do it. It does involve cutting and welding the actuator arm, so I'd recommend getting a second hand actuator off Trademe or something and modifying that so you still have a spare original.

just jam a RB20DET ECU & Injectors onto the factory loom and run it at 8psi

Don't use a "chip", unless you are tuning it to suit your car. Given its "for 5psi" you clearly aren't.... so stay away.

Have a pull spring working against the factory actuator is your best bet, lengthening the arm will just make it boost later but still boost to 8psi when the exhaust energy produced is greater than the exhuast energy required for 5psi.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.
