Virgin Teflon and rate of heat transfer... the best material to use and
the theory as to why it works. Thermal gaskets are a thermal barrier...
they slow down the rate of heat transfer and thus lower the heat transfer
from manifold to intake air.

EDIT: I had a couple of smallport gaskets/spacers waterjet cut out of
1/8¨ Teflon, and from memory the all up cost was around 175 bux for
the two. So 120 bux each would not be out of order for a Teflon spacer,
and I would expect Phenolic spacers to work out cheaper.

Thermal gaskets are one of the low-cost mods, and should be
considered in the same basket with synthetic oils, higher flowing air
filters, underdriven water pump pulleys and electric fan conversions etc.
The gains may be small, but they are simple and cost-effective.

I priced up some phenolic yesterday just out of interest. For a square metre, 6mm thick was $571 +gst. WOW!! So if they are selling for $120 on TM then thats a steal!!

if you buy it from Australia and get them to cut it down to size for shipping then its even cheaper.

Exactly my thoughts. While some installations may get a loss in HP as they are sucking hotter air etc, others are proven to gain measurable differences when done properly (cold air box etc.)

This is a legitimate comment, if a little broad !!! The colourful generic
$29.95 Chinese cone filters are pretty much crap. But the kind of filter I
had in mind was the replacement panel filter that drops into your standard
factory air box. They are offered by the likes of TRD, HKS, Pipercross etc.

I spent a few years involved with the manufacture and sales of high
performance aftermarket air cleaner/filter systems for trucks and heavy
construction equipment. And I am familiar with filter efficiency, pressure
drop and dust holding capacity. In general, OEM filters are very good, but
they are built to a price. There is always room for improvement.

well if you actually read what i wrote since your such a speacial sort
i helped gizmo setup the business of making the things and if you go to his site you may just find what your looking,its all done from a dxf file not hard to do.
and even you should know sweetheart its been around and used on v8's since adam was a boy,is it not a case of every little bit helps?
but since your back round was working for the post office im sure you know better or did you get burnt there to?
and this threads about spacers not filters, and wether or not you may think filters dont work think about this to how much money they have made over the years selling them and what do you earn a week?

The way I read the owner of the test car, under WORST conditions there is no gain - but overall it was worthwhile. That test also applies if you have an E90 Bimmer in the first place haha.

Every bit seems to help, while I haven't seen a specific back to back test it seems to stand out that at least in the Honda world where people have done a lot of this kind of thing - the stand out results virtually always seem to be where people have been thorough about doing the Phenolic spacer, wrapping header, intake/airfilter setup etc etc. One of my mates got his DA6 running a stock B16A1 up to over 120kw (101kw stock figure on the dyno used for progress) pulling all stops on all those little tweaks and tricks.

Maybe one thing by itself isn't going to make a difference, but if you want the edge over someone who isn't going to be as thorough you may as well do all the bits and pieces and enjoy the benefits of cumulative gains.

if they didnt work they wouldnt be in business, tell k&n how you figured it all out im sure theyll take your word and shut the doors
dude all you ever ever do is bash everthing everyone does thus your word doesnt stand for much and you dont even work in the industry.
now run off to speedtech and tell them to stop selling all there aftermarket filters and products as they dont work im sure you know more than andre( only in your dreams )
