Blacktop Oil Pressure

Postby Petrolhed » Sun Mar 21, 2010 6:18 pm

Tried searching but couldn't find what I wanted.

Does anyone know the maximum pressure that a blacktop should run IF everything is working correctly? The reason I ask is that I have a chance to get an oil pressure gauge at a good price, but it only reads to 100PSI. Will this be enough?

Cheers

Can reach 100psi when cold + revving. Otherwise it's normally around 50-80psi while driving around at operating temp and ~40psi (sometimes less) idling at operating temp

So Second question: Is there a factory mounting point for the sender? Or do i have to get a filter plate?

There is a pressure switch for oil light, that port could be used for sender.
Do not use brass fittings. Use only stainless.
The pressure switch located behind AC bracket.

Because the brass is easy to over-tighten/strip and leave small metal shards in the system?

You shouldn't be revving it when cold

Brass cracks from vibration.

I see. Thanks for that tip guys. I wouldn't have thought of it. But it totally makes sense! *goes hunting for brass fittings on engine and gets them replaced* :)

If you get more than 100 psi of oil pressure your oil filter will most likely blow off the side of the motor

Was a bit of a "worst case" exaggeration. I've seen 90psi on a Silvertop that one of the munters I went to course with decided to drive (fairly hard) after first start to prove to me that 4AGE's "still goes hard" when cold after I told him VTEC engines don't engage the system under a certain coolant temperature  Some mothers do have them.
