Hi all,

My car plates, together with my Toyspeed surround, got stolen at Llyod Elsmore park at 5.45pm today.

An eye witness saw 2 polynesian girls parked beside me, come out of their car, unscrewed the front plate, then reversed and did the back plate from inside their car. They drove away in a blue 8-10 year old Mitsubishi Galant.

If anyone sees my plates "CFK***" with a Toyspeed surround on a car matching that description please send me a PM, or call the police.

The eye witness managed to get the rego of the suspect car, but it could have been stolen anyway.

These people were obviously organized as they came with screwdrivers.

The irony of the situation was that I had given way to them as I let them park in the disabled lot beside me.

I trust you have given all the info to the cops about how they are NO LONGER YOUR PLATES.

A work friend of mine didn't report his plates missing till 3 days after they had been used as a drive off. It took about 18 months and a court appearance for him to finally be let off the charge - even though he had people to back up the story he was in Palmerston North at the time the petrol was stolen (I think) in napier!

Seems weird how people can steal your plates and use them to get fuel in a totally different car to that of the car the plates are registered to..... THEN you have to prove it wasn't you that filled up? I mean is it that hard to notice that the hiace van with your plates is NOT the mini cooper the plates are supposed to be on. My mind boggles. But yes, cover ya ass and try track them down for punishment!!

crazy to think people really steal plates for that purpose.

might have to use bolts instead of screws lol, doubt that would slow them down much though.

Weld the bolts to the plate and to the chassis, that'll sort em. My front plate is cable tied on :oops:

yeah you can get anti-theft screws/bolts

Should be able to get the above pack from Repco or Supercheap.

Given how far they're sticking out some pliers would get them off, but if they were screwed all the way in it might be a different story.

If those are anti-theft, anyone, myself included who wears a tool belt everyday would be able to take them out no sweat

exactly. And just like wheel lock nuts, its not like you're unique with a one off removal tool. There's hundreds of people, probably in your suburb alone, with the same lock nuts and therefore able to take them off

I guess they should be advertised to slow thieves down, not be 'anti-theft'.

They stop oportunists from driving up and taking your number plates with a screw driver. Any inconveniance and the'll move on to the next car.

what i dont understand is ... if the car was stolen anyways (not just this situation others as well) why bother to steal the plates anyways ...

how about a small sticker on your plate saying these are stolen anyways dont bother

Reminds me of the time that Akane received a letter from a gas company saying that he stole gas in like the lower North Island or something, and they said "We have evidence of you stealing gas in your TOYOTA MR2 with the numberplate NOGRIP"

Picture revealed a Commie with the plate N0GRIP. Haha retards.

I wouldn't be surprised if they used it for a gas and run. And I'd be even less surprised if they used it on something that doesn't resemble your car in the slightest!

anything like those so called anti theft screws must surely help though, if a plate cant be had in seconds i cant see them bothering
i had to attach mine differently after 1 got stolen and then another time i was having a nap in the car and woke up 1 thread of the screw before they got another one
