'87 laser- failing to start

Postby MR2SIK » Wed Mar 24, 2010 9:55 am

As in title, my Ford Laser has an intermittent problem where it won't start, 9/10 its fine, then on the odd occassion when you turn the key, nothing. Bought a new battery, and it still does it. Leave it for a couple of hours and its fine, also jump starting it works too.
Its running the 1.3 carbied powerhouse too 8)
Any ideas on what to check/replace?

voltage drop between key and starter.
next time it doesnt start put a wire between the battery supply on the starter and the excite terminal, if it starts no worries then u have a voltage drop problem.
fit a starter slave relay.
PM me for anything autoelectrical, Info or jobs etc....

a friends car was been difficult like this. thought battery was dead as it would jump start but not start by its self. Ended up been corrosion under the battery terminal which you couldn't see with it all connected up.
"You can't do it like that!." "Why not?"
