I've never seen one, but it would be interesting.

There is a Japanese Touring car in NZ that has a 3SGE in it though... It has all the gear - 18" 1-nut wheels, huge brakes, air jacks etc etc. These TRD2000's must have been made so that car would pass homologation.

so it's an se101 as opposed to ae101???

if so, 3-4 maybe more were built for Kiwi 2/Tasman Cup rally class.
my one , ex-Chris Paddon was built as 7age, but Deane Buist, Bruce Sollit and a few other built the 3sge version up

Yes the Japanese Touring car that is here in Wellington is the original factory race car used to homologate them. Quite a machine and far more than just a 3SGE shoe horned into a 100 series shell.

Deane's car was an AE92 whereas mine was a AE/EE100.
Engine mounts are not really a problem.

I like the look of the AE101 sedans 8) They've aged quite nicely. I keep looking at the grey 101 GT sedan I see at the railway station. But I know that while it would be a nice road car, I do all my commuting on a train so a nice road car would be wasted on me.

A 101 sedan with a 3SGE would be a lot of fun, and nobody would expect it.

^^ That one is also very cool. 4age 20v and most of the good touring car bits, but still usable in competition.

1:17's at manfeild is impressive for a 4A powered 101...

i brought my car because ive always liked the shape of the ae101 corolla sedans.

I could'nt find one at the time so got the sprinter gt instead for $2500, which im am very happy with and isn't much different as you all know.

plan to keep it n/a and will be looking into the 3sge swap in the future.

would all the mounts need to be custom made?

I've written this here a few times and it can probably be found by searching. But I'll do it again.

Ours was a Gen 3 in a 100 series Hatch which originally had a 2E. We used the engine, gearbox, driveshafts and hubs from the ST202 Celica.

On the gearbox end we hung the Celica mount from the bracket with no modification.
Once done the STD Celica engine mount at the cambelt end sits squarely in the middle of the chassis rail but needs to be raised by 10mm.
We did this by welding in a very simple bracket to which we had welded two captive nuts.
Now the motor will sit square & level but will swing from back to front.
The rear gearbox mounting bracket will then line up with the mount on the crossmember but the hole will likely be in the wrong place.
We removed the rubber and machined up a nolathane replacement.
Bolt it up, set the motor where you want it, mark where you want the hole, drill and insert the steel collar.
It is now a simple matter of making a bracket to mount the front mount to the longitudinal crossmember which will be about 20 or 30mm out of alignment.

The only problem that we had was that this positioned the unit 20mm out of centre which we fixed by using one driveshaft from an ST182 and having another custom made.
It may have been a bit simpler moving the hole in the gearbox end bracket out 20mm and down 10mm. I cannot recall whether that was possible.

Deane Buists car used the 3SGE engine with the C series gearbox and was quite a bit of work I believe.

Original TRD JGTC Corolla 3S powered touring car (now locally owned)below. Quite possibly the same car as in Truenotch's picture.

the red one last seen with the crew of Geoff and Emma? Bone was a AE101, but knowing of Deanes expliots, one of his many AE92s could have been done as well.
