Postby gleem » Wed Mar 31, 2010 9:06 am

trying to remove my ae101 gtz strut from mu hab etc, all is out of the car now. ive taken of the arms but now, were the strut bolts to the hub when i turn the nut the whole joint spins in itself. How do you get around this. i was thinking of angle grinding a slit in it and put a flat head screw driver in and then remove the nut. hopefully not to jamed.?

the joint should seat in a taper to stop it spinning? you may need to re-seat it in the taper by tapping with a hammer(preferably a soft face hammer), remove the nut and then tap it out of the taper.

its the top joint in the hub in this pic right?

the ball joint has a taper which fits into a taper on the hub like so(58 seats into 60):

you need to whack the balljoint to make the taper lock up in the hub. so dont hit the threaded end.

The circlip prbably holds the ball joint into the strut, well sorta as its a press fit. you cant take the ball joint out of the strut until its removed from the hub tho.
