brake fluid leak (booster to master cylinder seal)

There is a visible leak from between the master cylinder and brake booster.
Is this a sign of a faulty master cylinder? or just a case of needing to replace the paper gasket?

the only way fluid could really be able to get there would be if it's leaking past the master cylinder piston's o-rings - fortunately they're a piece of cake to rebuild if you get a seal kit for it, otherwise new ones vary from $40-100 from places like BNT.

Yup seals gone on the M/C. Quickly wipe it off before it wrecks the paint!!!

I dunno about "...a piece of cake..." I've rebuilt master cylinders that were a BASTARD to do. There would be a seal that goes in the middle of the piston somewhere.... the seal has a tiny 5mm hole in it...to get it to the right place, you have to STREEEEETCH it over big ass 10-15mm diameter bits. Make sure you use rubber grease, or you can damage the seals when you stretch them. Try not to stab yourself in the hand with the blunt screwdriver you will inevitably use to try get the damn seals on. :roll:

Oh, and if the cylinder is not alloy(it will be rusty if it isn't) check that the inside of the bore isn't rusty. Because if it is, the cylinder is $&#$%, get another one. :evil:

fair enough, the ones I've done have all been single circuit AP racing ones, I guess the tandem types would be more difficult
