Indeed.... Enough of that...

rather, well done little Datsun.....

Matt's car is certainly faster than the sum of its parts suggest!

I saw him racing at Ruapuna the other week and most of the OSCA cars could not pass himin a straight line! :o

Those datsuns go WELL. Back around nearly 10 years ago there was a Datsun in that class sponsored by aztec corn chips. Driver Brian Roycroft. Had a 1500cc engine, weighed like nothing (within class rules of course) did 1.04s around puke!

I know there is an integra in that class that runs like 1.14s or 1.13s around Manfiled. Naturally aspirated 2L. I think it runs like 1.38s or lower around Taupo.

Yeah that integra is crazy fast! 1:14 around manfeild in an NA 2L is out of this world.

And Rick Bones Datsun has to be one of my favourite cars - sister car of the Aztec coupe and very well built. 200HP, under 700KG and 1:16's around manfeild. Awesome.

Scott - at least matts car manages to start AND finish most of the races he enters...

While these old cars do go well I have to say there not something I'd aspire to own and go racing in.

There are actually reasons why Scotty's Evo has had problems I guess thats what happens when you start pushing beyond what the factory intended.

Am i thinking of the right car?
midmounted 2jz shoe horned into a Toyota Levin, if so, most cars in the country would have a hard time passing it.
I didn't say anything negative, i'm just more impressed by a small capacity non Turbo getting around Taupo in th esame time as a 2jz in anything.

SS2000 = No JZ's - Think about it. But the car was built by the same guys as the 2JZ AE101's.

Matts car:

Ah no.... As has been pointed out its a hybrid 4age/7afe turbo.
1800cc 4 cyl circa 450hp.
The older 2jz levin was also racing in OSCA at the same meeting at Ruapuna.

I would be keen to see more of that datsun, engine specs? suspension etc? Certainly looks cool.

Nope, that's the car we built, in fact we built two, but sold them both.
And you cant run a 2JZ in SS2000, there is a 2L limit, and I'm less than 1800cc.

Have some incar vid's but need to edit them to upload.

First session on Friday was my first ever lap around the Taupo track,
and coming down the back straight in the thick fog
so that at the 200M board we could not see the corner.

They delayed the start of the session due to the fog,
and then started it anyway later when it was worse.
The camera didn't record for that session,
but it was an experience and a 1/2.

Have some footage of the other friday learning experiences,
including one big moment under brakes,
but need to edit the footage to make it fit onto youtube.

I managed to Qualify 2nd for the first race,
and took the lead of the line but run wide on cold tyres at turn 1,
but raced back through to take the first race win almost a second.

Second race was reverse grid handicap and I was on grid spot 29,
second last car and in the last group.
I had a good run through the field and crossed the line 3rd,
but broke out of my time bracket as I was still learning the track
and so was relegated to 5th with a 5 sec penalty.

I also set the fastest SS2000 lap time for the weekend in that race too at 1.39.436.

Third race was reverse grid again and started dead last on grid 32, 1min and 5 sec. behind the leaders.
Weird looking at the start line out the side window of the car on the grid.
Run through the field again to finish 3rd.

So was a good weekend overall.
