smallport 4age dipstick length

Postby panda_dan » Mon Mar 29, 2010 4:07 pm

Team

I need to know the length of the factory smallport 4age dipstick from under the handle (where it sits on the top of the feeder tube) to the tip

Thanks

dipstick

Postby panda_dan » Mon Mar 29, 2010 5:10 pm

Yep same situation for me

I have a blacktop one which is considerably longer and the oil reading is an inch over the full mark even thought I know that it has roughly the right amount of oil in the sump for a smallport

So i bought a smallport dipstick from a wrecker down country, he sent it to me, but i think it's the wrong dipstick, too short, because when i do a test dip there's not a spot of oil on the stick

If anyone has a smallport with factory dippy in it, please let me know

This has come up a couple of times....

so lets make a FAQ

Can people who have whatever engine post here the measurements of the appropriate dipstick.
lets get all 4ages and how about all 3sge/te variants

lets have from under the head (Ie where it seals agaisnt the tube) to the FULL mark.

Please be exact as a coupla mm difference can make a difference.

small port 4age from under the stopper to full 292mm. low 315mm
big port 4age from under the stopper to full 239mm. low 262mm
3sgte gen4 caldina under stopper to full 446mm. low 470mm

(i think)
silvertop 20v full 355mm. low 370mm

cos my one is bigger!

Is there any difference between the bigport and smallport disptick tube length?, saying the dipsticks themselves are different lengths i'd imagine the tubes are different.

Yep, i've seen a few. Different dipstick lengths all on the same/similar block with similar sump pan. Tube length is also a vital measurement.

Ok so does anyone know the different lengths of all 4age dipstick tubes ?
Because mine is 220mm and my friend's tube is 80mm and we both have factory 4age smallport engines
:/

80mm?

If in doubt, just drain the oil, put in exactly 3.1 litres and there's your full mark. Give or take 100 or so mls

From memory I would go with closer to 3L than 4L by what i've had left in bottle. That being said, I know for a fact you can get 7L into a 4afe :x Not my doing I swear.

If blacktop measurement is needed for the FAQ I can have a look, as well as 4afe of same year.

3.2-3.4 litres with filter change for fwd.
Not actually sure I've ever changed a rwd one
