Some pics from Japan

Postby Timmo » Mon Apr 12, 2010 8:46 pm

Hey Fullas- Just got back from a couple of weeks in Japan- I was with my Girlfriend this time so didn't get to go crazy on the car things this time but did manage to pop across to the Toyota Showroom in Odayba (Tokyo) Im glad I did because there were some new things as well as a couple of surprises

There were a few Toyota Sports concepts including this sweet Mark X (The Mark X is mechanically similar to a Crown Athlete but lower specced......still, 2gr-fse Direct/Port injected V6 and RWD is pretty sweet)
Image

Image

hmm What is this! Didn't expect to see this here but stoked I did! Ft-86 with some sweet aero parts. I can't remember seeing any details about mods, presumably because the base car hasn't even been released yet. (oh yeah, that is me....I look shite but we had made our schedule pretty busy!)
Image

Lexus as a brand was released just after I left living there...So hadn't been to the showroom there

A pimped out Prius....why not?!
Image
Image
Image
Image

Toyota Crown Hybrid.....nice cars, full of tasty tech
Image
Image
Image

Brakes sizes aren't restricted in SuperGT....can you tell?
Image
Image

Sweet GT300 MR2....first time I've seen it there at the museum.....they must keep rotating stock....which begs the question: Where are the rest of the cool cars kept?!
Image
Image

A bit of a random pic but I took it to show where they had routed the coolant pipes- In the inside beside the 'trans tunnel'. Interesting.
Image
Sweet wide body mmmm
Image

Early Formula Toyota series 3S engine?
Image
Early JGTC Supra 3S engine
Image
Image

At a guess this is an Indy engine....It was interesting because it was a single turbo but only got exhaust gas from the RHS....the left was a standard exhaust?
Image

Cool WRC Corolla....another new addition I'd not seen before.
Image
Image

Another new one- This is the Supra (V8) that won the SuperGT series the year I went and saw a race at Fuji
Image
Image
Image

A few 'hachi Roku's'
Image

The lnext two pics are of the sweetest spacie game EVER! You actually got to sit in a WRX Sti Coupe, AE-86 or FD RX7 to play the game (Initial D) and these moved on big platforms as you drove (steering and gears, no clutch)
Image
Image

Random GTR....he saw me with my camera out so gunned it down the street. Sounded nice.

I hope you got a full 360 degree 5D high res shots of the JGTC engine, I need to make use of all of my Chinese genes and try to replicate what it has with cheap parts

haha of course! I had a couple of turns- once in the '86 and once in the FD..It was purely by luck that I discovered they had these as I was waiting for my GF to get a drink from the convenience store and picked up a random pamphlet which had it advertised.

Eskimo- Heading over is definitely worth it. It is fairly easy to get to and is free to enter. The actual museum is through the shops and separate from the Toyota showroom.

Amongst my friends, the bluetop t-vis is highly regarded as an infallible piece of engineering (as an in-joke). So to see it lined up next to all those other engines was a bit of a lol for me.

Yeah my brother (pilot for Cathay Pacific) lives there with his family so spent 6 days there. It was better than I was expecting to be honest- Lots of cool shopping (i.e. new Benetton suit...$180 NZD) and it was easy to get around and decently priced. We didn't get over to mainland China but the hoards of 'mainlanders' from tourist buses kinda reinforced our decision not to...
