ST185 Axle Nut Size

Postby Boosted_162 » Tue Mar 30, 2010 7:42 pm

Hey,
Looking at getting a new socket for removing the CVs on my RC. Im pretty sure its 32mm, but not 100%. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Cheers.

Most toyota Cv's I have done are a 30mm nut.
I have two 30mm deep impact sockets due to this.

I know AW11 4agze shafts have a 30mm nut, which are alleged to be the same/similar to gt4 shafts. /no guarantees :P

I believe it is 30mm. That is the only deep socket in that large size that I have and I removed shaft multiple times.

almost certain it's 30mm, the only 32mm ones I've come across are on mr2 turbos (interestingly they are the same thread size though, and are interchangable).

I don't have 30 and 32mm tube sockets, I have regular ones that i've cut in half and extended with steel plates :)

The ST185 are 100% 30mm :P Got a deep impact socket for mine, only $17 and some of the best money I have spent 8)

Yeah i found out in the end, borrowed a 30mm off my mate. Also confirmed MR2 turbos are 32mm!

But bloody hell it was on tight! Had no steel pipe, so had to jump up and down hardout on my powerbar to get it to budge! Tools arent made like they used to be..

one of my preferred techniques is to put a jack under the end of the powerbar (obviously with the bar aligned so going up makes it turn anticlockwise), jack it up to get some good weight on it, and if it's still not budging then hit it with a hammer a few times. Seems to be pretty effective.

I've had good success with a decent powerbar and decent length of exhaust tube when i stripped my ae92 trueno. Worked well but make sure you have a decent size powerbar i.e. good quality 3/4 powerbar./ I used my 1/2 inch one and broke the swivel end clean off.

I bent powerbuilt 3/4 powerbar into nice semicircle just by doing this job with nice fat steam pipe (1.5m long) as handle.
