adjusting the compresser housing on a turbo

Postby h8wrxs » Thu Apr 15, 2010 3:06 am

sorry if this is a stupid question

ive got an evo 2 which is currently running a standard turbo

i dont want to upgrade it just yet, but im getting a bigger intercooler fitted and custom piping bent up

problem is the standard turbo outlet points upwards and i want to spin it 180 degrees so it points down

i know you can unbolt the compressor housing and spin them around but will it break any gasket or seal that will need to be replaced or is it a simple easy thing to do

td05 turbos you will first need to remove the compressor housing, you will need a good pair of cir-clip pliers

there is a small locating dowel that needs to be removed before you can re-index it

they are usually just sealed with an oring against the backing plate, a little bit of rubber grease or Vaseline and it should be good to go again,

so do you remove the dowel entirely or put it back in when you bolt it back together

thanks

in order to reindex or rotate it the dowel must be removed and left out,
the dowel is designed to hold the housing in the factory position and will only fit in that particular spot

Just grind or file the dowel off and it'll let you clock the comp housing wherever you want to.
