Knock sensors

Postby petrolhead » Mon Apr 19, 2010 10:48 pm

Hi guys. The misses car needs new knock sensors (1994 toyota camry v6 3lt). Has anyone done these before?, know what to pull off the engine to get at these? I have heard you have to take inlet manifold off to get at them in the V. Thought i would ask on here before i try find myself a service manual as i have not been able to find one online.

Why would you (Toyota) put them there? I see no logical reason why they wouldn't or couldn't put them on the outside of the V....

I see plenty of reasons.
Maybe too hot next to exhaust manifold.
Maybe it has something to do how sound travels in the block as well.
The thing is these are changed once in a life time (if at all).

I have never actually seem a pair of intact knock sensors on one of those motors, they have usually been so hot they plastic internals have melted and flowed out of the steel fitting.
