An idea for a new category - Toyspeed Couriers.....

Postby 85AW20v » Mon Apr 19, 2010 11:17 pm

Was talking to FJ40Pete when he dropped off a small outboard for me over Easter and we wondered about the possibility of starting a new category where members can post where they need parts etc freighted from and to. We no doubt have a lot of people driving round the countryside for work or play who would be able to drop off bits an pieces. Pete has said it works well in other forums he's involved with. Payment - if required - would be agreed between the receiver and the courier.

Thoughts people/moderators??

Pretty good idea - see it pop up often for people needing things couriered. I have offered when people have asked and also offered out of the blue also.

I spend a lot of time travelling with a Nissan Patrol - often filled with gear but could fit some stuff in it :)

as said by emp, works well on ice. I've had 120kg of batteries brought up from chch for me and various other bits and bobs i've carried around the country when i've been asked to. Of course, works a lot on trust and willingness to go a little out of your way.

If you had control over your db, you could make the section only open to certain members/groups, and then people would be a little happier openly providing details as required. Otherwise PM's suffice :)

I'm all for it. I'm often needing stuff from down the line a little. And I'm always going on hippie road trips in the van, so can often take something for someone...

I would be fully keen. I travel from Dunedin to Christchurch fairly regularly to see my old man. Would be happy to take stuff with me, the car is always empty

The way I envison it, it's just a central place for anyone who wants something moved around, to post in. At the moment, a request could be anywhere, from this category, to buy/sell or the regional sections and might not be seen by those travelling. Once the request is made, PM's would be used to keep contact details etc private and between the requester and the respondent.

Looking at the replies so far, people certainly get around.....

A nice idea would be to sticky some polls on the commercial couriers, who can do what from where and how good they have been.

Sometimes finding a specialist who can carry engines / wheels / general conditions is a big problem

Perhaps make it like projects etc and only visible to registered users? Or maybe you have to be registered for 6 months or something before you can see it?

Alot of it is just going to be trust...plus unregistered users cant post in there, so no issues there.
