Cups: Rim up or Rim down on the shelf?

cups rim down (we've had disagreements about this at my flat). My biggest argument for it is that when you put a not-entirely-dry cup into the cupboard then the moisture can run out - but I also support the "keeping crap out of the cup" argument.

yeah the moisture can run out....down to the lip and then gather around there until it dries. Mmmmmm mmmmmm

I remember an argument about this on Friends once. Another issue with rim down according to Friends, is air getting trapped and going stale. Think of that horrible smell when you let down a tyre.......

But surely the water can still get to the forky ends of the forks and stuff because the cutlery cage has lots of holes and stuff?

We have on in my flat but we don't have enough stuff to even fill it up so there is no point using it lol

Another issue with rim down according to Friends, is air getting trapped and going stale.

Wash a plate or something, then place it upside down on a flat surface and leave it for a day or two to dry. Smells worse than my grandma's wardrobe.

Definitely rim up for me. Couldn't stand drinking musty air.

Rim down to keep the dust out, unless Im stacking them inside one another. A little dirt on the rims nothing compared to the grinding and drilling dust I'd breath in at work

Rim up, but i guess it depends sometimes... If your cups are in a cupboard, you have no need to put them rim down, as hardly any dust would get into them anyway. If they're just on a shelf, rim down (but keep the shelf clean) as it will keep the dust out.

As for cutlery, I put it fork/spoon/knife-side up, as it makes it easier when unpacking the dishwasher, means you don't have to go searching in the cutlery basket a heap to find all of one utensil.

the only way dust is going to get in your cups is if you don't have doors on your cupboard,

Rim up, and I always rinse before I use. Rim up allows tey last bits of moisture to evapourate instead of cultivating weird bacteria.
Sharp stuff down in washer, thats forks and knives. Spoons go how they land.

Always rim down! The other day I looked in the cupboard and was like WTH????

Was like I was in someone elses house. Someone had put the cups rim up, completly messsed up my morning routine.

The same when someone puts the toilet roll, paper rolling down the wall.. It's just a disaster!

lol I've discussed this with both genders and both have had their opinions on the matter.

Depends really if your keen on touching the wall of a public toilet or not to be honest.
