Well I'm looking at buying a 2001 RS 180 tomorrow, looks really nice, got the the full kit, sitting on nice DTM RS-GT 17's. Manuel, 120,000kms.

Anything to look out for, and how do they go compared to the other NA class cars such as DC2 Integra's etc?

I've driven a mates one before. Don't expect it to be faster than a Type R by any chance. But certainly better than a SIR. Quite a nice car really, enough space for the family, but the go when you want to have some fun.

I would say it had less than 114kw atw, had a drag with him before (legally), and had no issue with my old setup (114kw), and by third gear he was a good 1.5 car length behind me.

But in saying that, kompassor has one, and did some very nice mods on it and achieve very good results too!

Oh ok yea the Type R claims 147kw engine and the RS 180 139kw engine.

Not really going for something that's going to be really quick, I've just sold my evo 5, and the gas bill is shocking. So a decent NA I can ring out and enjoy in the corners while being practical is all I'm looking for.

Maybe look at a few modifications later on in time.. I can never help myself in the end anyway!

I checked one out not long ago, was expecting something nice, sedate and Corolla-like.. was pleasantly surprised at how quick it was!

They're rated (well, Toyota rated) at 141kW, 2kW less than a Type R, so they aren't slow, but they're also around 200kg heavier I think? So not as racecar-ish as a DC2R but still very sporty, I saw one being fanged around at the Bathurst 24hr, so they certainly have potential as a weekend racer.

The only thing that I felt let it down was the notchy 6spd gearbox, but I guess if you had time to get used to it you'd be fine, and the very narrow powerband! Not like a VTEC where you can really wind it out.

According to the japanese car catalog website they only weight 1140kg dry, which isn't so bad for a 4 door.

doesnt DRY mean with no lubricant etc? wouldnt that mean like closer to 1200kg normally

Pretty, I'd own one if I could get one in 4WD, I've seen one with 4WD stickers around but I have never seen one for sale

i have the runx version (same car different name) i love it its sporty but functional i take mine out to the track for track days . they a good fun car

4WD versions of other Corolla platform cars only seem to have the 1ZZ-FE

Suprisingly quick, and they respond very well to light modifications. Good gathering of modifiers here in Australialand. Respond better with turbos.
They run approx 110-115kw atw.
With just an aftermarket ecu, intake and exhaust one owner saw 130kw atw. Not bad for N/A

Oh sounds good, intake kit would prob be my first mod. Where is a good place to source them, is there a particular place with decent Corolla upgrades?

I've got one up for sale here in Welllington. Only reason i'm moving it as I needed 4WD and more boot space.
It's a fantastic car with plenty of get up & go but still can be economic. If you're looking at Mods i've got a few parts that aren't with te car at the mometn I could sell (TRD rear swaybar, clutch & flywheel). Or you could buy the whole car with the bits too :lol:

Yay got it and love it! Goes so well and handles really good which is the main thing! Never driven a variable valve timing car, it's a lot of fun hitting 6k and the car taking off, thought it might just make a lot of noise and not go anywhere lol.
