This is figured from a round trip of 61kms with 22kms of motorway driving costing me $15 per day at the current rate of 1.98/L for BP Ultimate 98.

Car is an untuned 1996 ST205 Celica GT-Four with a Gen 2 turbo on a Gen 3 engine (CT26).

I got about the same in a close to 3000kg, 3.8L petrol, auto, 4wd with huge power sucking mud tyres 8O

yeah that sounds abysmal. the wrx i mentioned before has a t04e turbo on 20psi with 800cc injectors and doesn't get driven lightly, and would use about half of that

but still...any one know about the oil on cylinder 5 spark plug? Research has lead me to believe it is a leaky valve cover seal. What is this and is it pretty easy on this motor?

Something seriously wrong with your tune.
What ECU are you using? Injectors?
Why gen2 turbo (in stock they are rubbish)?

25L/100Km is really bad.

Crikey, I used 1/8 ish of a tank (9.25litres) IDLEing / getting the RX7 to Idle properly on saturday, think the 850cc primary injectors may have something to do with it though.... the damn thing almost makes boost at idle too 8O

That's seriously bad maths.

$15 - 61kms
7.6L - 61kms
= 12.4L/100km

Yeah lol

$15/$1.98L = 7.576 litres of 98 for $15.

100kms/61kms =1.64

7.575*1.63= 12.42L/100kms (i just rounded up a bit so its about 12.4L/100kms)

So yeah i don't know where you got 25L/100kms from.

I would expect a 1jzge jzx90 to get around 10L/100k motorway driving, thats what the russian auto.vl.ru says aswell. 1jzgte powered autos usually get 11-12 so its not that high i dont think.
my 1gfe gx90 was a sack and was so slow and chewed about 10L/100k for no fun at all! at least 1jz motors like to rev for your money :)

shit no one answers the actual questions on the thread? yes valve cover is easy but you have the na version so u will have to remove part of the intake but thats pretty easy too. shouldnt take you more than an hour to do

thanks for the response, yeah was noticing a trend with that

removing the intake isn't too hard, i had to do that to change the plugs. i don't actually know what or where the valve cover is though, nor where or what the seal is sealing...lol Is the oil on the plug likely to be caused by this seal?

yeah most likely valve cover, the other cause if its similar set up to a 4age is aluminium o rings under the hex studs.

someone will confirm this.

yea bloody internets no takes this business seriously

umm if the oil was caused by the gaskets leaking you would have a oil leak/pool in the middle of your cylinder heads around your spark plugs. so unless there is oil around the number 5 plug its prob coming from inside the engine. i doubt its anything serious. drive it for a while and take the plugs out again and compare if its still there do a compression test

they have 2 seperate sides, intake and exhaust the sparks are just covered by a spark plug cover(plastic) and not a part of the oil side of the engine

is it even possible that the valve seal is allowing oil onto one plug? would it not be more likely to be all of them? A leaky piston ring has been another suggestion. it was quite a bit of oil, perhaps up to a teaspoon or so

normally it would affect cylinder 6 too if you pull it apart and have a look at it you should be able to see oil sittin on top of the engine around the spark plug. if there is no oil on top of the engine or leaks from the covers its internal!

maybe just crc that oil down the hole and put your plug back in and see if oil builds up again. the yellow tarnish is usually just the ceramic shit discolouring from heat, very common.
