Parking Buildings in CBD

Postby ~SlideWays~ » Fri Apr 30, 2010 9:45 am

Hey all,

Looking into a better place to park when I upgrade cars later in the year, just wondering if anyone can suggest a good place to park preferably in a building which isn't mega expensive. We currently get a good rate because we signed on for a year but its not the safest place.

I work near Lambton Quay but I don't mind a 10-15 min walk.

Don't mind if its reserved or unreserved as long as there is going to be a spot.

PS I've already suggested to my work that they provide parking...that didn't work.

My honest opinion would be that considering the level of theft from, and sheer muppetry from other car park users, if you've got a nice car there are NO good parking options in the city for the nice car.

Keep a POS for commuting, be it for your commute to the city, or if you chose to commute to a railway station then train it to the city.

Train is the devil. Gave up on it years ago  Weren't there supposed to be new ones in 2010?

I was looking at upgrading the ae101 daily driver (gf's car) to something nicer and more fun with 100,000 less km's like an S15 which we would both own and pay for. But anything nice costs more in insurance, more petrol and higher parking prices.

The logical thing to do is keep the aging ae101 for the work commute and get an S15 as a weekend car... but I'd rather drive the thing than park it plus then there is yet another rego, wof and insurance every year.

Ideally consolidating the ae101 and the S15 into a nice daily is what I want but the whole theft thing is causing the biggest headache. Why should it be such a pain in the ar5e to have a niceish car for work?

Frustrating to say the least. But a decent parking building would be a huge plus.

PS I can't use the GTZ turbo for work because that's just stupid and spine breaking, and the girlfriend is not keen on driving the Landcruiser in town traffic.

I looked into parking at the stadium once. They have a sign there saying $130 a month. In actual fact it is $130 +GST plus a minimum 12 month contract + a month in advance...and that was for unreserved. I work at Telstraclear though in centreport so was just waiting for a park there to open up. We get them there for 60 a month with no additional costs.

It was only temporary for me so it wasnt worth it. However normally it is $40 a week unreserved if you jsut drive in and pay cash. I would say it was dangerous for a nice car either as the lanes are pretty big and wide.

Dodgy as a dodgy dodgy thing dodging a dodge. Avoid if you've got a decent vehicle that might get nicked.

Check with hotel to see if it is in the secure caged section? If yes, then you're probably good. If it's in general parking, take a car that's boring.

Contact the Mantra Trust there are under cover carparks underneath the James Smith Markets I use to park my Supra there, though it was awhile ago now I'm not sure how much it costs now but parking is very secure.I think I paid about $204 a month.
