Link G4 Plugin

Who here uses a Link ecu? Specifically the Plugin versions?

I Am looking at getting a Link KnockBlock, are theses necessary? I Dont think that the G4 will detect Knock on its own.

The storm needs a knockblock to detect knock, the extreme doesn't as it has the hardware built in.

We had limited experience with some of their earlier versions.

They are great for tuning, but we found it not so good at the track,
to the point where we did not run it in the end.

but they may be better now than they were.

*theoretically* once your engine has been dyno tuned using a link ecu, the only factors that may change really are intake temp, which they have the software to make allowances for. if nothing changes, your a/f should stay the same (within reason, certainly you would expect dramatic enough changes to cause detonation). technically there should be no knock. if you plan to run more boost than what you had your car tuned on, you would have it dyno'd again to make sure its safe.

As matt stated, they tend to be more of a hinderance than anything. iv spoken to a few people about them and they reckon they are more trouble than worth.

Do you mean it was doing its job and detecting knock and pulling timing and or boost ? Mabey it was set to the wrong frequency or was to sensitive, or the car was tuned to close to the limit.

I plan to run one on my G4 Plugin, even though I trust the tuner to do a safe tune, I dont trust the quality of fuel at some petrol stations or failure of parts no matter how good quality they are.

Blocked filter, slow pump, blocked injector, fuel leak, bung regulator could all cause knock if the fuel isnt flowing proper and id prefer not to crack open the motor to replace pistons again.

all of those will cause much more than abit of 'knock'. your gunna notice if 1 of those issues are present straight away. a knock sensor can hardly iron abit of timing out to fix a blocked injector etc.
