What type of tyres do you have?

Have crap saggy springs and you will probably get loose easier. Just a thought. Especially in a FWD as more weight would shift off the driving wheels.

6kg front and 4kg rear springs in a corolla = stiff

I think weight and to some extent suspension will largely explain what myself and 1I1 experience.

May also be something to do with FWD vs 4WD or RWD.
Could also be a life stage thing, when they were brand new(up to about 4 months), they gripped a bit better in the wet, but they still have plenty of tread left on them 7mm or more.

I still like them as a tire, just could be a little better.

Slightly OT but has anyone on here experimented with different width tyres front and back on a FWD?

I am wanting to get a second set on rims and tyres so that i don't ruin my current tyres for manfeild abuse and can get Nankang NS2 pretty cheap (yes i know you get what you pay for!).
Thinking 215/40R16 front and 205/45R16 rears

Anyway noticed it seems pretty common for Jap tuners to do this

I'm running Bridgestone Potenza RE001 on the Altezza, great tyres.
Previously had Kumho Ecsta 712 on the rear. No grip in the wet what so ever. Fun around town but plane scary on the open road.

Had quiet a few different tyres on the BZ-G. 16" - Potenza GIII , average wet grip & noisy. DZ101, average grip, especially when new. Potenza S02, lots of grip. 15" - Michelin pilot preceda, so much grip especially in the wet. Yokohama A539, lots of grip.


How you finding the Nexens for grip in the wet pjay?

I had the Eagle F1's on the B4 when I first got it, found them to be a crap tyre for how I drive, grip reduced by a HUGE margin when half worn. Understeer, even when accelerating around corner, in the wet.

Replaced with the Direzzas and found them to be a much better tyre, didnt fail me once even in the wet.


Tyres on my current ride...I would be generous and describe them a round black rubber type substance...

Just ordered some MY01 tyres as apparently Eagle F1s not made for my size anymore, nor any other goodyear tyres. Tyre gurus confirm / deny this? Did a quick search to find this thread to find the MY01s are shithouse so changed my order to RE002 which it seems replaced RE001. I kind of assumed that for $170/tyre the MY01s would be alright. I'm not paying that much for an average at best wet tyre though!!

I thought re002 were just a different tread pattern to re001. They seem to have more tread lines but less wide (If that makes sense)- they look similar to the Bridgestone Playz

I need to get a pair of tyres for the rear of my 'coon, 4 years of driving and the shitty kumho's made of the hardest (and shittest in the wet) compound known to man have finally worn down.

I didn't particularly like MY01's when I had a pair on the back of the Corolla (had Worn Toyo Proxes4 on the front). RE001 were much better, and Craig (bones_on_bikes) has RE002's and recons they are awesome exp in the wet

Haven't heard too many good things about MY01's. Surely there's a better tyre out there for you for similar or a fraction higher expense?

Yeah have MY01s on front of the MR2 and some shitty Chinese brand on the rear. I don't drive in the rain

Not sure, just what I got told. So I take it with a large bag of salt But yeah was pretty sure the RE002 won't be bad if the RE001 is sweet. So told em to flag the MY01s as I found out they are average as.

Going by the above comments the MY01 is a pretty shit tyre huh.... I just wanted tyres that handle the jandal especially in the wet. Sounds like the RE002 will do the trick. Tyres isn't something to cheap out on!

What is the useable life of a tyre Tsoob? The current tyres will be a couple/few years old now and have some cracking between the tread.

ive got bridgestone re11's on my levin, great tyres in wet and dry.

The only real tyres I've paid for lately are Neuton's, and I'm quite bloody impressed with them to be honest. Really need to get another pair for the front so I can have them all round (in a car that actually goes maybe?) and properly test them.

Tyre prices have already started rising, we have had some slight increases.. but of course we are still looking after club members with the best pricing we can!


Goodyear/Dunlop are deleting a lot of their older tyres as are toyo, Dz101 is now gone. as is the t1r in a lot of sizes

I got a set of GSD3 Eagle F1's for my old man's car, and they're the awesome directional type, yet the pair I got for the MR2 from the same shop a month later were the new ones. Havent had a chance to give them a good fanging yet, but so far they feel pretty good.
Need to suss some 255's for the rear

I have a set of pretty old 17" Bridgestone G3's (235-45 and 265-40) which still feel surprisingly good, but thats probably more because it doesnt get pushed anywhere near hard enough on the street to stress them out. Im sure 3 laps at Manfeild would have them turned to butter though.

Im looking to step up to a 285 and 265 combo when its time to replace them, but when I was in at Tonys tyres getting a puncture repair last week, I asked the chap to have a flick through his pricing book and there was very little to choose from in 17".

Does anyone here work in the industry and have some free sound advice for me, please?
