Do removable silencers have to be welded in? Or is the single nut and bolt all goods

^ Debateable.

A nut and/or bolt/screw still requires tools to adjust/alter.

Depends on the interpretation from your wof man.

I thought they had to be welded in. Failed my warrent for my exhaust last year at VTNZ. Went and got a silencer and just bolted it in. They were fine with it. I just thought VTNZ would have picked it up. My normal WOF guy doesn't even glance at it. Although i have it in permanently now so its all blackened. You hardly know its in there.

But like is it illegal to drive on the road with it bolted in?

Only if you do the bolt up too tight  Could always rivet it in for wof as that's certainly not something you can undo without tools

How easy is a rivet to get out if you want it out? Say for a track day or something?

Using a hand tool you can remove a muffler in 10 mins. (Hacksaw)

Even less with Dr Makita.

So I tacked in a silencer/baffle for the first recheck and that still failed. Now the exhaust is factory from the downpipe back.
They even hummed and ha'ad about the fricken downpipe, so I nutted at them at how would it affect the sound...

Depends on WOF man, as said a couple of years ago, they still failed me even after silencer was welded in, said it was too easy to remove, took a bloody angle grinder to get it out
So I got the factory zorst flanged so I can swap it back to the straight thru in a few minutes.

Also, whos the grave digger here? thought I was going crazy with not remembering starting this thread recently.
