Right so what things are there to consider when selecting the width of a tyre/rim you are going to use?

Have a search for the LVVTA guidelines, which are posted here somewhere. Basically you cant have an uber stretched tyre legally now
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

first you need to have a think about the car they are going on, and how much clearance it has. then you need to think about the tyre size you want to use.

the pic in the link i posted has mega flares, and insane sidewall stretch. small FWD cars do not tend to lend themselves to wide rims. unless you happen to like the stretch look, then going wider than you need for the tyre you want to use is a waste.

OFFSET is where its at

imo the most important part of getting a car looking decent is the right amount of low, and the correct offset on whatever width rims you fit. im sure plenty of people have seen S14 silvias with primered uras bodykits and 17x7 +37 advantis or some shit on there, looks like you could fit your head between the guard and the tyre, freakin retarded. filling the guards makes a car look staunch, pretty much regardless of the rim design.

I'm doing up a larger car, so wide shouldn't be too much of a problem, but I'm not going to go crazy!
