kill switch on battery relocation

Postby the fallen303 » Mon May 10, 2010 7:28 pm

hey, so the supra's going to be parked up again for a while, and am thinking of doing a battery relocation. what i'm wondering is if while the car is parked up for extended periods of time, is a kill switch in the power cable going to be similar to physically removing the battery terminal in terms or longevity of the battery while sitting, or is it still better to disconnect one or both of the terminals at the battery itself?

It depends where the kill switch is located in the circuit, if goes battery then kill switch then fuses circuits etc then thats just the same as removing the positive terminal on the battery, you would only need to remove one terminal on the battery to stop it discharging.

Depending on how long you are going to leave the battery for it might be a good idea to remove it completely from the car, as you will want to keep it fully charged while not in use.

Also with the switch wired like above it you would need to run the charge wire from the alternator to the battery and not to the isolator, because it wont kill the car if its running, but depends what you want, an isolator for the battery when its off or a kill swich to stop the engine when its running.

Rick, the kill switch will do both if you attach the charge wire to the feed side of the switch.

Maybe consider a cheap solar trickle charger aswell to keep the battery topped?
(Not sure how many watt you would need)

WHY, cause your Grandmother said so?? Just charge it or get another battery. Work it or don't do anything. It won't do any good at all, except for the battery, unless it is run/driven, not idled & rev'ed under no load, for 20-30 mins. to get the oil temp up and evaporate crap in the oil & condensation in the exhaust system, and after you've primed the oil system by cranking it over before starting.[/i]
