Rear knocking

Postby eskimo » Wed May 12, 2010 9:57 pm

Hey,

I have slight knock coming from the rear when going in and out of driveways / small bumps etc in my AE111 corolla.

The car doesnt have a rear sway so could warn castor arm bushes's make a similar sound?

Cheers

Sweet, will check the shocks and top hats tonight. The boot is empty... as that something rolling around was my first though

Cheers

I had a similar problem, drove me mad

Then I opened the rear compartment that holds the jack and tools and the jack was loose!

Tapping on the guard from the inside

Yea, first thing i check was the jack, spare wheel..under the spare wheel. Doesnt have a rear sway bar..yet 8)

Was thinking maybe the castor arm bushes could be on there wayout and could be making a similar sound.

I plan on tracking it down this weekend as it drives me bonkers

Yup should have a 17mm rear sway bar unless for some very very odd reason it's been removed..... Or he had a typo when he wrote that!

You would not beleive the different names people have for some things!

Had an arguement with a guy after "control arm bushes" for the front of his implala.
Turns out he was after the castor rod bushes.... :x

Ok so here is the rear end of my car, what I thought were castor arms are the ones running from the middle to the hubs

Ah control arms, radius arms etc etc
Just be aware that some of those are spherical bearing bushs so they rotate easily

Sure.
Also, shake the exhaust and check/lever/twist/pull on all the suspension joints at the wheel's hub and all the suspension joints from the top of the body to the wheel's hub.

Sweet, will track down the source of the sound this weekend.

I have sourced a sway bar too :D (thanks Rick!) & I assume the AE111 trueno/levin one will bolt up without any issues.
