Oil Pressure warning light flashes for 2-3 secs at startup??

Postby Tha_INS » Fri May 14, 2010 9:40 am

Hi guys its not a toyota but I just did an oil change on the mrs 97 Nissan Bluebird and the oil pressure too low warning light always flashes for a few secs now when starting from cold. If its been warmed up it doesn't do it any suggestions on what I should do next?

Engine is an sr18de and oil is Valvoline Durablend 10w-40, oil level is just below full mark on the dip stick when on a level surface if that helps.

What sort of oil filter are you using?

Where is it mounted? I don't know much about these engines.

Also try a 15w-40 next oil change that should help

Yeah a good oil filter (factory) and the correct weight oil (a bit heavier when cold, then what you have) should do the trick.

just using a ryco oil filter will try using a heavier weight oil but had an online service manual for it which stated it takes 10w-30.....

filter is mounted on the side of the block on the intake side

check if the oil filter has anti oil drain back, or buy a new one with it,

my 4age did this when i fitted the wrong filter without anti drain back, it stayed on for longer then normal so i got worried and swapped to toyota filter and it goes out just like before,

If he's using a a cheap filter without an anti drain back valve that could be the issue

a 15w is thicker on startup so that could also solve the issue

majority of cars pre 2000 should be using 15w-40 anyway

I imagine CAMB01 would mean a quick look under the rocker cover, not taking the engine apart. If it clean under there, its safe to assume the motor itself is pretty clean. If it full of gunk however...

It has either always worked this way and it is just your imagination, or it is getting ready to die & there isn't a thing you can do.
Just drive it.

Or oil is draining out of the oil filter when it's left sitting so it takes longer than it should to build oil pressure?

the most damage is done at start up so this is one of those fix it right things,
genuine oil filters only.

a ryco filter is just as good as genuine imo.

Could be a faulty oil pressure switch or oil pump.
